xvertigox Posted March 9, 2020 Read the interview here! "On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes. The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy." 35 Quote Share this post Link to post

Boaby Kenobi Posted March 9, 2020 Great news. I hope the game has a physical release too. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
PetalousPanoply Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) That's really cool, I love Doom 64 and I'm glad to get more of it and Nightdive's ports are always excellent. What a great month to be a fan of Doom! The interview was very interesting too, Samuel Villarreal is super talented. The bit about the new lore makes me think they're gonna make it canon that this is the same Doomguy as either the original games or as 2016/Eternal (or that they're all the same person) but who knows. Swordofdanu Posted March 10, 2020 Thank you for posting this, this is amazing news! I was always left wanting more after the main campaign. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gothic Posted March 10, 2020 So I guess the topic on the Unmaker's name can be put to a rest now? 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted March 10, 2020 So they took my idea and are doing their own episode. I mean, new levels are great but now I wonder is there any point on continuing my new episode if this one will be considered canon. Surely they won't be the same but mine is based on the original ending and if the ending is being changed it won't make sense. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

It sounds like the idea of this episode is that they force you out of Hell and you have to force your way back in. So it starts with you chilling in Hell and ends with you chilling in Hell. I don’t know what you have planned narratively for your episode but I think it could probably still fit in either before or after the new episode. Plus more custom Doom 64 content is always welcome, Nevander. :) 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

jazzmaster9 Posted March 10, 2020 Not only are we getting new Doom 64 levels... this also means more Doom 64 for Doom 2. Its a win win situation. Completely hyped for this. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Imagine if people stopped making Doom1 and Doom2 wads because they "didn't fit into canon". Good Doom maps are good Doom maps man, if you think your maps are fun, release them. No one was like "oh jeez, we better delete Memento Mori from existence since Final Doom is now canon :(" 18 Quote Share this post Link to post

No, we haven't a clue about you writing your own fanfiction. Seriously, your posting is getting ludicrous. 17 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altazimuth Posted March 10, 2020 Resident Kex Team Vegetable-Eater checking in. Forgot this happened. Hope you guys enjoy the new map set. A bit bummed out I didn't have the time or ability to make something myself for it. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted March 10, 2020 Doom WADs are just Doom WADs, there's no need to read into it any further than that or call it something it isn't 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Quasar Posted March 10, 2020 As the writer for the story bits, if there are story similarities to any existing mods they were coincidental and I was not aware of them in advance. Either way, it takes place an unspecified amount of time after the original game, so, user mods can fit in wherever they want and do not have to be considered redundant. The entire Doom franchise is based on the unlikely sequence of a single man fighting against Hell more times than you can count. 34 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mine begins immediately after the end of The Absolution. Immediately as in, the first thing you see when the level loads is the Mother Demon dying in the same arena. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gerardo194 Posted March 10, 2020 Thank you @Kaiser @Quasar and @Edward850 for bringing Doom 64 back to life plus adding a new episode. Gracias. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
Egg Boy Posted March 10, 2020 This is awesome! Something in the vain of No Rest for The Living, for sure. Maybe Id will start commissioning creators to make more official WADs, like Final Doom. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah, there's like a quadrillion wads out there, but as long as what's getting released is good, hell. I'd buy it. If only I could give every wad author that released something I enjoyed five bucks. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

oCrapaCreeper Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) So I wonder how different these levels will be with modern hardware into account? Or would they still be in the confines of what was possible on the 64? Edited March 10, 2020 by oCrapaCreeper 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

This may not be too out of the question. Double Impact has already become an official add on to the latest Doom ports. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
