CyberDreams Posted April 4, 2020 TBH i don't really care what version i play. The BFG version is "easier" to play for numerous reasons. People complained about the flashlight and other things when Doom 3 was new so the BFG edition "fixed" that and now people still complain about how it ruins the gameplay. TBH, I don't mind either one. I own hard copies of Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil for PC and Doom 3 BFG Edition for Xbox 360. I believe i own them on Steam as well so i'm all set. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arl Posted April 4, 2020 The Original. BFG Edition's only interesting feature was the new campaing, but since The Lost Mission got ported to OG Doom 3, now BFG Ed has no point anymore for me. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Senor500 Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) The original game, same reason as everybody else, BFG Edition lightning up things I don't mind, but ammo balance is completely broken. Because the E3 demo was noticeably shinier than the darkness we ended up with in the final product. They ended up building the game with a darker atmosphere to not use too many light sources since it would make the game harder to run, so they built it around that. That's one reason I don't mind BFG edition adding more lights, the 2004 game would have probably been as lit if not more had they not have had that issue. Yeah, I'm thinking about the same thing, and it's the reason it no longer bothers me tbh. All the time I thought they altered it for crappy reasons, but after watching the E3 footage multiple times I no longer get that feeling. It was probably never meant to be so ridiculously dark back in 2004, but lighting is expensive, especially on the underpowered hardware of that time, and since that wasn't something the user could simply toggle... Ammo yes, that aspect is definitely "broken" in the BFG Edition. The OG had way too much ammo, and the new carry capacity is just ludicrous... hybridial Posted April 7, 2020 I have to echo the harsher claims here, I played the Xbox version originally, I played the regular PC version some time later, and then played the BFG edition a bit (I frankly got it on sale mainly to get the Doom 2 bonus episode) and I'd say the game has dated terribly, it was never very good to begin with, it isn't a good horror game nor a good shooter, and the best version of "Doom 3" is Doom 64. I feel the period in which the game designed was mostly terrible for the FPS genre, and even games I kinda like from that period are still not that great. I would say Prey and Wolfenstein were definitely much better than Doom 3 (And that Wolfenstein game was honestly the only one in the series I liked at all) and I can't say for Quake 4 as I haven't played that. I mean, I don't hate Doom 3 like I hate Half Life 2, but I still really don't care for it :P 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
