roboticmehdi2 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) GZDoom doesn't work on my ATI Radeon. GZDoom is known to be shitty on AMD cards. Is it AMD's fault because similar problems are not present on intel and nvidia? Is it GZDoom developer's problem because no other OpenGL ever had a problem on my ATI Radeon? Is it OpenGL's fault because if it did not exist I wouldn't have been having this problem. I don't know. I just decided to hate all three: gzdoom, amd and opengl. ************************************* System: notebook, intel core2duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, ati mobility radeon hd 2400 xt, tried all kind of drivers(latest and older ones). I get no textures (all white), or some textures only, or no sprites and no weapon. (Absolutely no problems with DirectX games either.) I wrote this mainly to show my hate to gzdoom, amd and opengl. But any advice that would solve my problem will be appreciated. Edited March 15, 2020 by roboticmehdi2 0 Share this post Link to post

At any rate, the points made in that thread still stand. That GPU is just not enough for GZDoom and AMD has awful GL support in their drivers. What you're experiencing in GZDoom is caused precisely because of that, so unless you go for an upgrade, that's never going away, an issue unsolvable. I've just googled the specifications of that card and it has only GL 2.0 support which is ANCIENT. GZDoom requires GL 3.3 at minimum to run well. You might want to try LZDoom instead which is basically GZDoom but aimed at older hardware, and see how that runs instead. Edited March 15, 2020 by seed 7 Share this post Link to post

Redneckerz Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) You really make yourself worthy of that avatar, OP. But to respond: 49 minutes ago, roboticmehdi2 said: GZDoom doesn't work on my ATI Radeon. AMD's OpenGL driver is less refined towards something like GZDoom. This has been an age old problem, and although their general driver (As in, general games) has been improved, things like GZDoom miss out. In fairness, GZDoom plays best on Nvidia, ''The way it's meant to be played.''. Except in GZ's case that's a very strong argument. It simply does not run as great on AMD. Its not Graf's problem and historically i have heard this argument before, that Graf makes his port ''vendor exclusive''. I do not believe that's the case, its more the way Nvidia and AMD work with their drivers. Besides, this is nothing new. In the demoscene, Nvidia is often preferred aswell for the same reason, and the people coding in that scene hit the driver a lot harder than GZDoom will ever do. Does not sound logical. So because OpenGL exists, GZDoom runs bogus on AMD cards? Nah. There are dozens of GL based ports that run fine on AMD/ATI hardware, the difference is that they are working in older OpenGL based API's (1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 2.0) and do not target the half-modern stuff that GZDoom requires (OpenGL 3.3 at minimum). Its not the legacy driver that borks, its AMD's current driver that simply does not take GZDoom as in account as it does with more modern titles. Quote I don't know. I just decided to hate all three: gzdoom, amd and opengl. If this is sarcastic, then its a poor joke. If this is serious, then its rather childish to hate on all three simply because you do not know. And that it is obvious that you do not know highlights the spec found below: Quote System: notebook, intel core2duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, ati mobility radeon hd 2400 xt, tried all kind of drivers(latest and older ones). Yeah, no wonder GZDoom does not work - Thats 10 year old hardware, and worse. The Radeon HD 2400 only supports OpenGL 3.3 - it barely suffices to run GZ and will have issues running anything properly. You are thus better off with LZDoom or an older GZ at the cost of functionality. Quote I wrote this mainly to show my hate to gzdoom, amd and opengl. Its childish. Knock it off.
