Mr. Pogo Posted March 17, 2020 (edited) I recently downloaded original Doom on my Switch (for some reason). Its not a bad port, but the movement controls take about half a second to register. It's pretty dang annoying after years of fluid mouse control and years prior of psx Doom being (from my memory) much more reactive. Anyone else experience this? Edited March 17, 2020 by Mr. Pogo Misspelled "prior". I'm dumb. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Is this on the Switch's screen or hooked to a television? Another thing to consider is that the Switch port uses analog movement so your walking speed is tied to how far you move the stick in a given direction. You're probably used to WASD or arrow keys for movement, which are digital inputs so it's all or nothing. The areas closest to the center of the stick make you move very slowly, so it takes a bit longer to ramp up to full speed. Because the beginning of your input is interpreted as slower movement, then that changes in real time as you move the stick. With WASD it still takes time to physically achieve full walking speed, but the input itself is 100% as soon as you hit the key. That difference between digital and analog movement can give the impression of lag. A way to test is to simply hold down the run button, then check how long it takes for your inputs to be registered. You can also simply see how long it takes to fire a shot, since the fire buttons are digital and should actuate fully as soon as you press them. I have my Switch in on and the game running as I type this, and there's nowhere near half a second of lag. There are also sensitivity settings in the options menu, so you could try that. But if you're really getting half a second of lag on the built in screen, I'd suggest there's something wrong with your analog stick. If you're getting half a second of lag on your television screen, adjust your TV settings. Edited March 18, 2020 by famicommander 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Pogo Posted March 18, 2020 I've been tinkering with the sensitivity settings and still have tha lag. I hadn't thought about the tv settings! I'll give that a look! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You'll probably want to turn off most/all of the post processing options. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lollie Posted March 19, 2020 Some TVs have a "game mode" which can help reduce latency, that'll be your easiest bet. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
