His jokes do feel like he's just filling space for what could have been usefull information.

I feel like because he got more popular, he's trying to become a "personality" when his previous identity was just "guy talking about retro FPS games". (something like Sonny Jim feels like when Pewdiepie refered to his fans as "Bro Army")

 

Guess he just wanted to be more than that, so now he sort of shares characteristics from game journos and Reddit, despite making fun of those.

He always felt like he had surface level takes too.

 

Wonder how long until he has a cartoon avatar of himself talking during reviews or live action sequences where his "evil twin" shows up to interrupt his reviews or something and they fight.

I admit, i don't watch much of Civvie, but i just think Gman would pull it off worse, maybe.

Dunno, he got to much signature to be a boomer Aussie that swacks your mom while you're playing a easy difficulty level so you're dead to him.

It's say so much about him, and how he reviews the game, that i kinda like it, and i trust some videos are geniune hype or need to make a video, like thoses on Ion Fury, The 3D Real Mafia stuff, etc. And he it's so hyped for any kind of Doom that it's really good.

Just don't take all his opinion final, always take him like your second opinion if you wish-

True. I just watched a few more of his reviews (still haven't watched the latest Doom Eternal one just yet) and he does say that a lot; aka if you don't play on the hardest difficulty "you're dead to him" kinda stuff. I know it's more or less a joke but some of the younger crowd out there really takes that shit seriously and makes memes and other shit about people who don't play games on the toughest of difficulties. Hell i was just watching someone play Doom Eternal on Twitch on Nightmare difficulty and they were literally dying every other second. It was making me cringe so hard...I was thinking to myself "turn it down to UV at least...for fuck sake".

 

TBH though, i guess that some of GGGMan's (his old name i believe) video's aren't that bad. He does a thorough job usually. Usually is the key word here as sometimes i find them to be rushed but i guess they aren't as bad as i thought they were. I still like his older reviews better but overall i think i'll continue to watch his reviews and just make my own opinion (basically take his opinion with a grain of salt).

I watched Gman's review of Sigil yesterday evening. For comparison I also watched Civvie's and Mr Icarus' reviews again to refresh my memory. They all made a lot of the same points, including about how punishing the map pack could be, especially on Ultra-Violence. Another commonality was the observation of how dark some of the maps are. The overall difference seemed to be that Gman was a lot more harsh about the whole thing, he sounded quite disappointed. The others appeared to take the faults and difficulties more in their stride.

Personally I think the difference largely comes down to how much patience one has with the map author dicking the player about.

Oh look it's the dude that accused Romero of charging people for Sigil. Does he also claim Eternal is too unfair and cheap because he keeps dying due to just blindly running through the levels as fast as he can?

Nah, he liked the game. He still bitters about his Blood FS review though.
