What is Project DARK?

I've recently come into possessing a treasure trove of map scraps from a popular author that I want to stitch together into a series of mini-episodes. I've put a lot of them together myself, but rather than work on this project solo I figured I'd enlist the help of the community!

 

What do I have to do?

Either sign up in this thread or shoot me a PM, and I'll message you a wad file that I'd like you to edit. Most of these are short,  explosive, Boom-compatible maps, with a definitive early 2000's feel. You're going to have to connect areas together, add details, adjust monster placement, and occasionally make new rooms. None of these maps should take too long to finish, unless you get ambitious.

 

Also before you sign up, make sure you 100% intend to work on this as soon as possible. I want to get this project finished in a timely manner, and don't want anyone to sign up with a backlog of wads they should already be working on. If you're going to sign up just to see what a scrap looks like, don't bother.

 

What about textures and music?

The original author has already provided me with the textures he was planning on using, as well as a midi selection. I'll send over the texture pack, and each map will come with its own midi.

 

Can I post screenshots of my work?

No. I want to keep this project as secretive as possible. I think it'll be really cool to quietly upload this to /idgames and surprise everyone with who the original author is. When we're in beta and about a week from release, maybe I'll let some folks post some teaser shots.

 

What if my mapping style doesn't fit the original author's? What if I don't like the scrap I'm given?

Don't worry about it, I'm sure we'll be able to work something out through PM. I also reserve the right to refine any sections I think are "discordant", so if you make a 500 cyberdemon mosh pit, I'll probably ask you to remove that.

Thanks everyone for the support! I'm going to cut off sign ups for now as I'm basically out of scraps, and waiting to see what people do with the maps I've sent them. Some people have already made some tremendous progress!
