GrandRich Posted March 21, 2020 My muscle memory for classic doom weapon keys keeps messing me up. Ya know, press 0 for the chainsaw, double tap 3 for the shotguns, 5 is rocket launcher, etc. Now this game has all these new weapons that don't fit that format and I end up switching to the wrong weapons. For context, I use a mouse with a Numpad for the thumb to select weapons. Can anyone relate? How did you deal with it? (P.S This might come off as complaining but it's not, it's just a fun observation, the game's a blast) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

zZ_Cadaver_Zz Posted March 5, 2021 I have WASD for movement Jump - Space Dash - Shift Chainsaw - caps lock Flame Belch - left ctrl Switch mods - left alt Glory Kill - F Nades - Q Switch Nades - 1 Heavy Cannon - E Plasma Rifle - R Chaingun - X Combat Shotgun - Mouse 5 Rockets Launcher - Mouse 4 Super Shotty - Scroll down Ballista - Scroll up BFG - 3 (2 is awkward to hit for me) Crucible - 4 Map / progression menu - Tab my mouse is the glorious pc gaming race model D (highly recommend) some of this took a bit to get used to but now I’m able to quick switch to anything pretty easily and everything is pretty comfortable. Never have to stretch my fingers very far and everything is easy to reach 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Update: the weapon wheel alone is proving to be too awkward as my skills slowly improve. Pressing the number keys for some of the weapons is now faster. I also found that mapping the weapon key bindings to somewhat match those of classic Doom resulted in fewer mistakes made when the game pushes me into a blind panic. I've played many more hours of classic than the new stuff, so that muscle memory is embedded much deeper into my reactions. Bindings are as follows: Keyboard - Corsair K30: WASD - movement Q - Switch to last weapon E - Melee/Glory Kill R - Chainsaw F - Switch weapon mod SHIFT - Dash SPACE - Jump Alt - Show objective TAB - Map and upgrades 1 - Shotgun 2 - Heavy Cannon 3 - Super Shotgun 4 - Chaingun 5 - Rocket Launcher 6 - Plasma Gun 7 - Ballista 8 - BFG9000 V - Crucible Mouse - Logitech G502: LMB - Primary fire RMB - Secondary fire MMB - Grenade/ice bomb Thumb button B (G5) - Flame belch Thumb Button A (G4) - Switch grenades I've also taken the opportunity to modify my weapon wheel so that only the Rocket Launcher, Plasma Gun, Ballista and BFG are on it; the other weapons are within easy reach of my left hand. I can't wait until DLC2 drops and we get to try out that "Racecar HUD" that Hugo keeps banging on about in the streams. Hopefully it will be available in the base campaign as well, because it honestly sounds like a much-needed addition. Edited March 5, 2021 by NoXion 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Martin-CAI Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) Besides the specific bindings, the most important thing is getting used and sticking to the new set up of buttons. Maybe, what you can do is taking these binding recommendations and using them not only in DE, but also in other Doom games. I did that, and I got used quite quickly once I made the change. My Brain will do the Rest. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted March 6, 2021 WASD Movement. E - Use/Melee 1 - Shotgun 2 - Heavy Cannon 3 - Super Shotgun 4 - Chaingun Q - Rocket Launcher Z - Plasma Rifle X - Ballista C - Chainsaw V - Crucible T - BFG F - Flamebelch R - Weapon Mod Swap G - Toggle Grenade Type Left Ctrl - Grenades Probably should make use of the side mouse buttons, but I never trust my thumb to not press one by accident. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doritos420 Posted March 8, 2021 My layout may seem a bit strange but I've settled on it after lots of experimenting, I try to have all my weapons easily accessible for my left hand for quickswitching. After I got rid of the weapon wheel I find I'm a lot faster at switching my weapons around. WASD for movement 1 - Shotgun 2/Z - Heavy Cannon 3 - Chaingun Q - Rocket Launcher E - Ballista R - Chainsaw T - BFG F - Melee/Bloodpunch X - Plasma C - Super Shotgun V - Crucible L Ctrl - For mod changing Equipment Launcher is mapped to my mouse 5 button (side thumb button). Flame Belch is right behind that at mouse 4. This allows me to use my grenades/flame belch and fire my weapons at the same time. As opposed to having grenades on mouse 3. I have mouse 3/scroll button as my change equipment/grenades. Shift is dash Space jump Mouse 1 and 2 is shooty shoot and weapon mod. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SulfurOccult Posted March 8, 2021 1. Heavy Cannon 2. Shotgun 3. SSG 4. Chaingun 5. Rocket Launcher Q. Flame Belch E (or Mouse Wheel Click). Melee / Blood Punch R. Switch weapon mods F. Chainsaw Shift. Dash Z. Balista X. BFG / Unmakyr C. Plasma Rifle V. Crucible Ctrl (or Mouse5). Grenade Alt (or Mwheel-up). Switch Grenades Spacebar. Jump Mouse4 is set to the weapon wheel, but I never use it. Mwheel-down is set to previous weapon, but again I never use it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BoxY Posted March 21, 2021 Havent played in a little while but I'm pretty sure mine are still something like: q-ssg 2-shotgun 3-cannon 4-plasma r-rocket launcher t-ballista x-chaingun v-crucible f-bfg mouse4-vindaloo burp ctrl-grenade g-swap grenade y-swap mod c-chainsaw e-use/punch Not that efficient and a couple of buttons are slightly awkward so I'll probably move more stuff onto my mouse even though I hate doing that in most games. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vic Vos Posted March 21, 2021 Mouse4 - grenade swap Mouse5 - chaingun Everything else is default, I think. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hfc2x Posted March 22, 2021 WASD movement 1 - Shotgun 2 - Heavy Cannon 3 - SSG 4 - Ballista R - Rocket Launcher F - Plasma Gun C - Chaingun B - BFG/Unmaykr V - Crucible/Hammer Ctrl - Chainsaw Q - Grenades E - Flame belch Mouse 3 - use/melee Mouse 4 - Swap weapon mod Mouse 5 - Swap grenades Works fairly well, keeping everything that's most immediately necessary close to my left hand, and things that aren't immediately as necessary (BFG/Crucible) farther away to prevent accidents lol. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
