Scorpius Posted March 27, 2020 (edited) 10 hours ago, Jimmy said: Hey @Scorpius, would you mind explaining why your map very clearly takes chunks from other people's maps? Your final room is almost a carbon-copy of esselfortium's MAP03 of Doom 2 the Way Id Did. You flipped it upside-down, sure, but it's still geometrically identical, save for the fact that it's slightly less symmetrical. You even enter it via a red door. And this area here is very clearly based on MAP19 of Memento Mori II. You make me sad. I don't think you spent 12 hours on this. Don't bank on this map getting included. Oh boy, here we go. I knew I was going to be called out for it. I'm almost too afraid to even reply to these comments. To summarise it up: I have a huge problem with taking inspiration too seriously, almost to the point of unintentionally re-creating the exact areas I'm basing off. 1) This is the perfect example for esselfortium's MAP03, I thought of an idea of the exit room that I thought was good. I looked around and found that map and used it as inspiration to bring my idea to life. Unfortunately, I took it too seriously and unintentionally re-created it entirely. The red door thing was honestly just a coincidence, believe it or not. 2) Basically the same thing with MAP19 MM2, I took it too seriously and essentially copied it. There isn't too much else to say except I am working on improving myself (in other words, stop myself doing this so often and eventually stop myself ever doing it again). 3) The "You make me sad" quote honestly hurt me, don't ask me why. I'm very sorry if I offended or disappointed anyone. The only thing here I will disagree with is the 12 hours thing, I am very certain I spent under 12 hours. Believe it or not, I actually didn't copy anything over from a separate editor, everything was designed by hand, including the areas that are "blatantly" ripped off areas. I am completely fine if this map isn't included, I now decided I am not really happy with it. 9 hours ago, IvanDobrovski said: Why would anyone steal parts from other people's maps for a for fun speedmap project... I don't get it. It's kinda funny when you think about it though... I'm not very good at coming up with ideas either, I resort to looking and playing other maps all the time. It's a bad habit, I know. I wouldn't purposely "steal" parts from other maps, that I've never even tried to do. I promise it wasn't intentional to blatantly rip off anyone's maps. 9 hours ago, Dragonfly said: Their submissions to the 64kb project are also plagiarised. I'm sorry but what map(s) are you talking about? I'm confused about this statement. I don't think I plagiarised anything from my submissions to that project, unless you count The Last Stand as a "plagiarised" MM2 MAP18 DM arena since I wasn't even aware of that when I designed my map. 6 hours ago, galileo31dos01 said: Hmm, that might also speak for this wad called "Doom: Perdition" by him, which I've seen around in videos first then played a bit myself to find that many parts from where the author said he took inspiration, are in fact very suspiciously similar to the originals, including one blatant almost-copy of the plasma rifle room from Xaser's PRCP map 15 besides the setup at the start and the BFG room from "The Pit", not a word mentioned in the text file about those. Xaser's map I can definitely agree on, that map needed several buildings and I was - at the time - running out of ideas. My apologies for not including his map and DOOM2 MAP09 in the text file, I must've forgotten to add them in the inspiration thing. May I ask what are the others that are very suspiciously similar, as you've said "many parts from where the author said he took inspiration, are in fact very suspiciously similar to the originals," I need to know. I don't count the beginning of E4M2 as suspiciously similar to E4M1 from Ultimate DTWiD because - at the time - I didn't even know that existed then, I just signed up to Doomworld by then too. All quotes aside, I am sorry for disappointing anyone with my bad map designing habit. I even admitted this in my DOOM: Perdition text file: "It was great experience, though my tendency to leave maps unfinished and nasty habit of designing areas that were too similar to other levels (and sometimes downright copy them), really irritated me." Thanks for hopefully understanding, I don't have anything else to say. :( Am I allowed to either make a new, completely original map to redeem myself, or modify the map to replace the ripped off areas with new and better areas and make general improvements? I don't want to quit this project unless I have to. :( Edited March 27, 2020 by Scorpius edited question and fixed post. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Walter confetti Posted March 27, 2020 Hi Roofi, the health needs to be placed in a FWATERx sector. Based upon from the shots you posted, you can easily make a little stream of water where the health potion are, and make a little water pool where the medikit is... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Funny thing that in my map I placed a soulsphere on top of a crate and there is a water spill on it too dripping down the sides on to the floor. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

universal-quantifier Posted March 27, 2020 Wait, so powerups like Berserk and Soulsphere have to be placed on water too? I assumed "health items" meant only medikits and potions. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

What else did you want me to say? You wanted me to say I put absolutely zero effort into my map? You wanted me to say that I did indeed copy literally everything into one map and designed nothing original? I am disappointed in myself and I'm working hard to stop my nasty habit. Call me delusional, crazy, stupid or whatever, I am not going to sit here and cry about this whole situation begging for a second chance, I want to do something about this. I've asked Jimmy in my last post if I can make a new map to redeem myself, just waiting for a response now. I don't want to talk about this anymore, please. Thanks for the reply. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Roofi Posted March 27, 2020 I made a second map. As the first one , it was not originally made for that project but it was very easy to make it conform to the rules. Today's is @franckFRAG's birthday so I made a map for him. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/457164374717759488/693169645078970428/Ro_isolation2.wad The screenshot is a bit outdated. xaekin Posted March 27, 2020 (edited) Finally got this one done. If there's no room left for it, hey, whatever. I'm satisfied that I have at least made a map. Jimmy Posted March 28, 2020 (edited) I'd like to thank everyone who's made a map so far. Even those who haven't started yet, please feel free to! There's no set number of slots. I'll make two (or three) separate megawads if I have to. Will be a bit of a butt to manage, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. YOU HAVE 24 HOURS REMAINING! @Tango TTV!Zone. Season 2. Let's make it happen already. Edited March 28, 2020 by Jimmy 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
RonnieJamesDiner Posted March 28, 2020 Hmm, if there will be as many megawads as necessary, I might try to put something together then in the remaining window. The turnout has been awesome! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

TheOrganGrinder Posted March 28, 2020 I'm just about done with mine, need to build in the teleporting monsters and do a pass for ammo balance on the various difficulty settings but that'll easily come in before the end of tomorrow and within the 12-hour time limit. In terms of music, if I want to use a specific track from the Doom or Doom II soundtrack do you want to include that with the map or is it sufficient to say (for example) "please use D_ROMERO from the Doom II IWAD," or similar? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted March 28, 2020 Changed midi with "The demon's from Adrian pen". Added few more details like waterfall and sewers entrance to the water pools at the blue skull ledge. Added the missing lower walls at the door tracks. nightmare-fever-v2.zip hope this time will be ok 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
