Doom Remaster Project

Recommended Posts

Hello!
I am looking for some people genuinely interested in starting a new project, a Classic Doom Remaster
What I mean by remastering is not "remaster" as in better graphics in the Doom engine, I mean a new project from the ground up!
That may sound crazy, but with your help, it might just happen! if you feel interested, definitely give a reply!

Thanks in advance!

ohhhhh, yeah i like the idea but you will need talented people for it (people who know how to animate 3D stuff, making good and detailed maps)

So you are developing a new title with Doom as your inspiration, i reckon you use Unity or Unreal Engine 4 to do just that (or Blender)

Word of advice regarding the bolded: Stating your project with such a comment tells me that:

  • Only an idea exists and perhaps one model
  • You need several others that are willing to work on your project
  • There is no summary that you have made for yourself what you require in order to achieve the goals that you want.

So here is what i want to know: What are your goals? What do you need? And how are you going to achieve it?

EDIT:

As in, recreate the game but with modern-day graphics, sounds, etc.

Recreating a game into a modern endeavor is a huge task and not to be taken lightly.

I am sorry that i have to say this, but i feel that you are doing exactly that: Taking it lightly.

that was the idea UE4 or unity since I know them both very well. My goal is to at the minimal create a recreation of the first few levels or a proof of concept. I need someone who can help recreate sounds, textures, and maybe someone to animate. I would work on getting the assets in-game, and all of the coding for it to function as it should. I would also do the models. Achieving the project will be a tedious task, but I feel with time and effort, it is possible.

EDIT:
Redneckerz, I will start with a proof of consept and go from there. thank you for the help

I suggest doing it the other way around: Instead of asking others to work with you without very little to show for, create a proof of concept yourself first.

That way, you garner interest more effectively because you can effectively show something. Simply showing a singular asset and then lay out a list of people you need to help with in my experience actually achieves the opposite effect.

Sure, but you have to ask yourself:

  • How long is it going to take?
  • Do i have the time available to do this?
  • How much motivation can i muster?

A lot of exciting projects die out because they are either ill-organized, rely too much on motivation rather than execution or simply aren't thought out at all.

This is something you should consider in my opinion.

This sounds like you want to actually make a Doom game, which is not something you can just decide to do. What are the project parameters? How do you plan to deal with copyright laws? Are people expected to work for free? What is the road map?

Personally I'd like to see a graphically updated, sound and music remastered, level bugs fixed, of Doom1 and Doom2--and not like the HD Doom, but something a little less gritty, kind of how Doom2016 went (but not to that same level); I'd still prefer this "remastered" Doom to be sprite based.

@YoopyDoopyDooper I'm not a great mapper, but I can help with maps, maybe help with the project in other ways--but if you decide to forgo this project, I could always use a Unity programmer for a project I would like to make!
