Didn't Espi say ruma was discarded from a project he is/was working on? That might be the reason it's named like that. It's a good map, but comparatively the others might be better...

Yeah, here's a screenshot (~200k) of the new map, a complete change of theme as one can see. Only the gray start area from ruma.wad was spared to this new level.

Anyway, I got a wad that I thought everyone might like playing. I downloaded and zipped it and put it here:

The level's not pretty, no. But the gameplay I found was pretty fun. There are a lot of secrets, which is really the only place you can get anything but a shotgun. If anyone wants to do a demo of this, go ahead. Be sure and send it to Magikal or I. =) I'll do a demo of it later when I'm not so busy.

I'm going to work on the site when I get home today, but otherwise, everyon go look at it. It's coming along well and is almost done. I just need to fix the individual pages for the IWADs and then add the ones for the PWADs. But everyone go look at it and tell us what you think so far...

My 0:54 demo on map02 is not UV demo but skill 1 pacifist. Other than that, it looks great.

EDIT: though I agree to what espi said, it's not very pleasant to eyes...

Neat... I'd suggest adding a text file template and a sample. Things are neater if everyone submits the TXT in the same format (I think I sent a demo using a pretty complete template), and it makes sure they don't forget important info.

Nice Doomsday presents for demo fans: DSDA and compet-n both updated today. That Hacx movie sounds well worth watching (as do lots and lots of the others, of course).

BTW, Opulent (if you read this) they are called Terminatrices (sing. Terminatrix) :p

Yes; Archviless is a better name anyway. I also half expected myk to tell me that the correct plural is actually Terminatrixes. ;)

I've now watched that demo - great stuff. Map16 optimized to zero seconds, lots of tricks... one I'll rewatch a few times. I needed to use MBF though - it desynched in PrBoom, like quite a few STRAIN demos do; it must be something to do with deh files that change a lot of monster behaviour.

BTW, how do you decide when to use DEMOn and when to use Opulent?

I haven't uploaded any demos yet, but we're almost getting to that stage. Colors changed and some pages fixed. I changed the mainpage layout as well.

The only one of the demo pages I changed is Doom II maps 1-10. That's how I hope to make the rest of the page look like. I'm very tired after all that work, so if Magikal is listening, if you could copy and paste that page and replace the information with the right information for each of the rest of the pages, I'd really appreciate it. I'll go back and fix the rest of the stuff later and put hyperlinks so people can actually download demos soon. For now, just use http://xfury.net/doom/demos

Actually, I quite like the idea of there being a nice and easily browsable directory structure to download the demos from. I'd tend to use that instead of the snazzy hyperlinks from tables and stuff.

Okay, I fixed the broken hyperlink... and I think I messed something else up. I'll fix it when I get home, and then go through and fix everything else and try and get the page in full working order by the end of the day if I can.

There are quite a few errors in map labels in the Ultimate Doom tables (three E1M5s, similar issues in E2 and E3, and E4 is given as E3). BTW, I don't see the need for a "General" category: any demo where you reach the exit counts as a speedrun - even a 2-hour demo on map01! Also, as things stand, you might be in an unenviable position of having to decide whether someone's demo is "General" or "Speed" - you might guess the former, but it might in fact be the best time the person can manage. Talking of which...

Some of you might want to try a very interesting map for speedrunning. It is map28 of TVR!.wad. In my demopack, I managed nothing better than 2:33 (I was in a hurry to get the pack finished - insert other random excuses here...). I now realize that this was "rather poor", having since managed a 1:30. It's a really interesting speedrun, where you're blasting your way through hoardes of monsters with the SSG and RL, with some useful power-ups along the way. There is also a major decision about whether to spend time picking up the BFG. I'm sure some of you guys can get the time well under 1:30, but any demo under 2:00 surely rates as entertaining enough to share with the rest of us. This is pure UV Speed I'm talking about. UV Pacifist might be possible too (just need a big slice of luck, I think).

The main reason we have "general" is because of people like me who don't do speedruns very often. And with Grind2, I DID do a speedrun, but I like my normal run better, so I can list the speed under speed and the normal under general. Otherwise I'd have two under speed and that'd just clog up the page with stuff.

And if I put one in the wrong place I'll aplogize and hit myself with a hammer. =)

Also, the only download page that is actually even close to right is Doom2, maps 1-10. The others are fux0red.
