A Nobody Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) What do you think? I don't have a PC. I put Xbox One to let you know what version it is. What does the game have? Edited March 27, 2020 by The Strife Commando 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) You should get in on the platforms it makes the most sense to you. If you enjoy playing video games on consoles, then you should get it on console then. If you enjoy games on PC, you should go for PC. If you enjoy both (and/or handheld devices as well), then you could consider buying it on all platforms. But that is going to mean no mods, I think - wads built with Doom Builder 64 will still be compatible with the remaster and playable on PC. Spoiler This is another topic for +1, isn't it? Well, at least my answers are on-point. Edited March 26, 2020 by seed 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted March 26, 2020 Q: Do you play on Xbox or PC? A: Xbox = Yes A: PC = If you really want to, yes. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DMPhobos Posted March 26, 2020 It's less a thing of 'should i' and more a 'do i want', you're really not gonna get a marginally different experience other than you can use your keyboard and play custom content on PC Ask yourself if you want to play it on xbox one, and then you're gonna get your answer 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

''I don't have an Xbox One. I just wanted to make a thread because i am bored.'' Oh, well okay then. You should buy it on the system you own, whether that's PC, PS4, Switch. ''I do have an Xbox One.'' Good! Then you definitely should buy it, its DOOM 64! ''I do have an Xbox One, but i am just asking DoomWorld if i should buy it because eh, i can?'' You can always ask for advice. But DOOM 64 is DOOM 64, so i am not sure what else you would be looking for? ''I don't have an Xbox One, i just wanted to troll DoomWorld and you little Pinkies fell right for it! AHAHAH losers!'' Not having an Xbox One is far worse of a crime. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
KainXavier Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) Based on my own experience, DOOM 64 plays very well on an Xbox One X. I'm about halfway through the main campaign, and I've only run into one issue thus far. (The water textures in Map 10 became visually corrupted but the game never crashed.) The controls are super responsive and the frame rate is silky smooth. (I'm playing on the "Watch Me Die" difficulty in 1080p.) I received the game along with my purchase of DOOM Eternal but I would not be disappointed at all if I had paid $5 for it. In fact, I liked the game so much that I paid $5 to buy it for a friend. Edited March 26, 2020 by KainXavier 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

CyberDreams Posted March 27, 2020 I mean, Doom 64 was originally a console only game so it does play great on console. Don't let the "die hard PC only" guys make you think that you need to play Doom only on PC to truly enjoy it. Play it on w/e platform that you want to play it on. I'm currently playing it on an original XB1 (not an S or X model) and it plays great. I personally want to get it on PC just to see what the difference is but right now i'm having fun just playing it on console. You'll enjoy it. Trust me. Make sure to bind some of the weapon keys to the face buttons (for fast swapping) since you don't really use them anyways and have fun. Also to unbind a button just hit that same button again. Took me a min to figure that out lol. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted March 27, 2020 (edited) Its cheap enough you can feasibly get it on both console and PC. I know I will be doing exactly this, at a later date. PS4 suits me fine right now, but once PC mods start using Doom 64's iwad and other such things from it, i'll be getting the PC version too. (On top of that, the team who worked on the port are great people who care deeply about the game, and deserve the extra money, in my view.) Indeed I got it as a Doom Eternal pre-order on PS4, but I also bought it on PC, for those exact reasons. And although other source ports dont use the Doom64.wad yet, the engine itself can handle some modding on PC (and they are seeing if they can make it more moddable as well). It seems to run great on all consoles and PC (sans some pretty unusual set ups). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The only thing I have heard is that one person noticed that the lifts in one of the levels were slightly slower and perhaps the music on map 20 is slightly different. But it plays the original demos which came with the game, which means its quite accurate. And then it has the bonus lost levels mission, with new maps. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
