joshthenesnerd Posted April 9, 2020 there's a lot i think is great about the pistol. the sound is great, it doesn't spread, the sprite looks really good, it's great for shoot switches you can't reach but that good is weighed down by one big bad. the animation is so unsatisfying. like, the shotgun's animation is so satisfying and it feels smooth. same with the chaingun and the rocket launcher. but the pistol's animation is just a clunker and it just makes it feel like a slog to use. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Billy Baron Posted April 9, 2020 I think it is a good weapon overall. For DOOM and DOOM ][ it serves its purpose very well. Ha hah, last monster. Damn, out of shells. Only half a clip left. It's rippin time! In DOOM 3, it is similarly awesome, if a little bit underused. There always seems to be a bit of an off opportunity. In RoE, it is actually in view way more, so the opportunities to blow someone or something away with it is. There's nothing to make really not make it obsolete, unlike the fists (with berserk, if we exclude the god awful damage range thanks to crappy RNG) which may still be relevant even after picking up a chainsaw. As soon as chaingun comes to play pistol is long forgotten. Never existed. Funny enough Quake repeated this mistake with the nailgun IMO. joe-ilya Posted April 11, 2020 I don't even like the shotgun in Doom all that much, so the pistol is really not up my alley, hate the way it's implemented in the game. I wish the pistol would fire quicker and precisely, all while giving the chaingun a downside, such as a cooldown, so to not make the pistol useless. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Next, your average damage is 10, because the pistol fires a single bullet doing either 5, 10 or 15 damage. Assuming you keep dealing the average damage, and since Cyberdemon has 4000 health, you'd need 400 bullets and land all of them to kill one. 400 x 0.4 = 160 seconds.
