Chip Posted April 29, 2020 is there a way to get WADs online and put them into your PS4 DOOM re-release. (also Xbox and Switch) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) Yeah, simply have your vanilla compatible mapset become ultra cool, @sponge will then recognise it and throw it at relevant people who then after weeks of internal logistics will upload it to their mod server. Okay so it's not that simple and only really possible by luck, extreme effort, or both. Thems the ropes when it comes to curated mod servers, though. Edward850 Posted April 30, 2020 To a lesser extent, yes. It's a complicated topic filled with semantics though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Nevander Posted April 30, 2020 I wished there was a way to load custom limit-removing WADs with the XBLA releases when they were new. How cool would it have been to put Memento Mori on a USB and load it somehow. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

maxmanium Posted May 5, 2020 You know, I'm not really sure why they didn't go for the ability to load DEHACKED patches. Even Chocolate Doom can do it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Because Dehacked is not in fact a native function of Doom, and it's not a 5 minute job to implement support for completely from scratch (especially for a port designed to be a self cleaning object and thus suddenly needs to handle string and pointer reallocation on a per object basis)? You grossly underestimate the amount of work involved in such a task. Edited May 5, 2020 by Edward850 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'd like to say given the circumstances of how the XBLA versions are no longer legally attainable I wonder if this is considered a gray area due to it potentially being abandonware, considering at least if you had the game downloaded from a legal purchase onto your Xbox 360 console I don't see why you couldn't personally modify the software that you own, just don't distribute it. It's pretty easy also to get Doom 3 BFG Edition for the Xbox 360 and for cheap too, but idk how much parity there is between that and the original XBLA ports. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The issue is being in a position to even repack the the game in the first place, which is not something users can causally do by downloading some random file. The issue isn't even remotely as simple as legality. Also abandonware is not a legal term by any stretch, and XBLA Doom isn't the point of contention in terms legal issues but rather the SDK itself.
