Let me start off by saying congratulations to everyone who participated, we managed to make 15 fun maps in only a weeks time. I want to extend a special thanks to Clippy, Austinado, Souless, Horus, and Roebloz for making videos/streaming of play tests for the maps submitted, I can say that we all appreciate it and enjoy watching our work played.Here is a collection of all the videos made of playtesting, if you record yourself playing send me a link or post it here and i will add it to the playlist! With the success of the last doom world speed-mapping project i posted a couple weeks ago I am thinking it's time for another round! If you missed the first speed mapping session you can get here Spoiler As Always Mappers all skill/Experience levels are Invited to Test their Skills! This time we are switching things up a little bit, new rules, new gimmicks, new textures, and a competitive add on! Thanks to @RonnieJamesDiner for the title pic. We have 3 judges who will be playing and rating submissions to add bit of spice and keep everyone on their toes. Our first judge has been a staple of the doom world community for years and been involved in many high profile projects such as the Mayhem Series, has released many well-received solo maps like Ovum and Eden, and does writing for the Cacowards. I am excited and honored the announce that RDWPA will be on the judge panel! RDWPA's years of experience will be invaluable to our team of judges. If you have not played Ovum or Eden you can get them here! Our second Judge has been in the doom world community since as far back as 2018 (RJD please correct me if this is wrong) and has produced various works, however the piece that sticks out majorly in my mind is Tartarus, a map made in UDMF and featuring OTEX textures is gorgeous masterpiece dripping with atmosphere, definitely check it out if you haven't yet!. I am exited to have Ronnie James Diner on our judge panel. Get Tartarus Here: Our final Judge does not have quite the extensive body of work available (much was lost to an unfortunate hard-drive crash) as the others, but has been a member of the doom world community stretching back as far as 2014. A recent project of his I have had the joy of playing is "Azoth of the Minotaur" a 2 week speed map created for the Omega 2019 Community Project. Expect to see it released with the Omega 2019 wad soon and definitely give this map a try. It's a boatload of fun! With that I am excited that Reflex17 will be our 3rd Judge! RULES AND WHATNOT Each entrant has from now, until May 9th 5:00PM EDT (eastern daylight savings time in the US) I'll probably be a little flexible if your submission is a bit after this but please try to get them by this time. During this approximately 1 week time frame you can construct your map.HERE IS AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON MAPPING: Do Not Spend more Than 8 Hours on your map. You can split it up however you like during that week period but max 8hrs. UPDATE: Just so everyone is aware, small changes such as texture alignments, and other bugs/glitches like stuck guys or misplaced things, even minor balance changes such as health/ammo are ok after the submission. Just edit the original post to add another download with the updated version, do include a version number if updates are made, and leave the original submission for posterity. Obviously this is difficult rule to enforce, so we will have to go on the Honor system. Though if your map clearly seems to have had more than 8 hours spent on it our judges will definitely take that into consideration. Format: Any format will be accepted, however, for ease of compilation, I will be using map info to control music, skys etc. Each Submission must include at a minimum one of the following Gimmicks, contestants are encourage to use more than 1 if they are feeling bold!Gimmick List -ID level re-imagine (any doom 1 or doom 2 level, but redone) -Minimum 100 Barrels -Max 25 Monsters -Ode to FireBlu, Must use Fire in a significant manner -Exit Visible from Start -Integration of a puzzle elementJudges will be grading on the following categories: -Creative use of Gimmick(s) -Aesthetics -Overall Game play The exact scoring system is in development, more to come on that later TEXTURES For this speed mapping session we will be using Cage's Texture Packs 1+2 Made by Cage This set blends well with Vanilla, we encourage all entrants to make use of the new textures, but using Vanilla textures is also OK. NO NEW TEXTURES ASIDE FROM THESE, HOWEVER, YOU MAY IMPORT A NEW CUSTOM SKY IF YOU LIKE. These were obtained from Realm667, however i have taken the liberty of combining the two sets to one wad file for ease of use. I really tried my hardest to made this map. As of late though I've not really been in that creative of a mood which has kinda killed off most of the projects I am working on. My TMoD stuff is delayed, the D2 project I posted a couple days ago is barely on MAP03 and I just barely scraped by making this. I know this is probably one of my weaker maps, and by the latter half you can see I slowly lost interest (which is odd for me since I usually lose interest in something after a month or so). With that being said, I tried to mostly stick to a black and blue theme throughout the map so as to give it a bit of a unique style to it. I think I did an okay job on that front. :) Also, this map has a tiny 'choose your own adventure' style to it (though both paths quickly merge together) as you can choose which gun you can pick from first! It was mostly inspired by replaying Barrels O' Fun for this and chaingunning the 4 or 5 Hell Knights that are left over after the Chaingunner/barrel trap in one small burst, which felt pretty cool. The name of the map is Barrels O' Whoop Ass because it occurred to me that map23's music sounds a little like the Stone Cold Steve Austin theme, but maybe I'm just crazy. This one took me upwards of 7 hours. So yeah, i tought i could do it in time...but i excedeed for about 15 or 18 minutes in that matter. I understand if im disqualified or if you guys dont accept it because its not good. - It was a first time speedmapping, and man the pressure was on...but i enjoyed, for the experience at least. Clippy Posted May 4, 2020 @Austinado I'm very sad buddy. Did a first play recording of your map and my mic died right off the start :;( I had the best commentary and it's lost forever I need a better wireless mic setup. I sit on recliner and play from TV across the room and use an app called Wo Mic to turn my phone into a mic but did it ever let me down today. I ordered a proper mic from Amazon and still not here yet Hope you get something out of my silent play anyway but without the commentary there is a lot of me looking at things Pretty upset about that tbh 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
