Episode 4? just love it. It has better visuals than some of doom2 maps.

Good to know that im not the only one who think that the first 2 maps are very hard in fast. Now im trying to do that with brutaldoom in realism mode and its fucking impossible, map 2 just own you.

Well last night I finally beat E4M1! As promised! And a few more levels as well. Tried not to save too much, but some of those cramped/tedious parts are just not worth repeating in my opinion. Here's video if anyone is interested in a fairly virgin playthrough:

 

 

Did some cool stuff and also some stupid stuff. Got really lost on M3 for no reason. Didn't complete the whole episode cuz I got tirrd. Also I was not happy about that stupid unmarked lift in the lava pit.

 

So far, it's got some fun moments, but also a lot of dumb ones. Quite a few stuck monsters, either totally stuck or just behind an easily abused ledge. I kinda liked the short but crowded obstacle course style of M2. M3 on the other hand is just absolute trash. It looks like poop, monster placement is poop, pretty boring level. The best part of it is the little bridge with a red key door made of pillars. Which seems to have no purpose. The worst part is all those troll teleporters. Here's a gateway... Oops, it brought you back to the start for no reason other than to annoy you! Zzzzzz

 

I'm interested to see how the rest of the episode holds up. I'm not currently impressed enough to put this above E2 and E3, which have plenty of flaws but are at least a little more colorful...

What does iwad stand for

 

Doom is a iwad file. So is Doom 2. So is Final Doom.

 

But other games (unofficial) are just wads, not iwads?

Hmm yeah well I dunno... What's harder to survive? 9 maps in E4 with the standard doom roster or 32 maps in doom2 with like Revenants and viles and chaingunners and mancubi, and Pain Elementals? Hmm... Tough question. It's such a close call, too.

Unfair, worse than some of Doom II's maps, it seemed like Id just wanted to cash in the success of Doom by making hard and unfair maps, the funny thing is, the difficulty curve (at least for me) was reversed, the first map was a chore, but the others were easy.

Id really seems to have a tradition of cashing on Doom by making hard mapsets that are awful, look at Master Levels for Doom II

For me its the first general impression E4M1 leaves on me. Just ridiculously underarmed and difficult for being the first level of the episode. Otherwise i've generally found it forgettable in comparison to other independently made megawads and such

Probably Doom 2, the levels are a maze, so you have to go back and forth for that damn red key, and in that time, some Pain Elemental you killed 20 minutes ago respawns and waits you in the red door with 20 Lost Souls.

There's also kind of an unavoidable tendency to compare them to the other three episodes, as they are presented together commercially. However its clear that the production of these levels was separate and divorced from OG Doom. Its hard to judge it strictly on its own merit, but I just don't find myself very enthralled by the levels

E4M2 was brutal, should have really been as E4M7 instead. E4M6 was beautiful, esp the view looking outdoors on the eastern side of the map. Also Episode 4 inspired me to make my Death Tormention episodes. Love the orange sky creates a nice contrast against the maps and works well in all styles of maps. The sky was taken from the end screen of Episode 3 with the (Easter) bunny's head on a stick.

E4M9 also has the door seen in Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3.

In my opinion episode 4 had relatively solid maps, even the weaker maps such as E4M3, E4M4 and E4M5 are somewhat fun to play and explore but to me the episode really shines with is the theme it introduced. The combination of WOOD, METAL, GSTONE, LAVA/BLOOD, SP_ROCK and the so iconic orange skies gave it such a memorable experience.

I dont use credit card and I get all games, movies for free on internet, which is something very normal in Turkey and there is no judgement by laws in Turkey, unlike USA.

 

But since this is an USA forum made for Doom, I wont repeat it once again. It looks like I may get ban for that but I dont share any links or things on forum so I think I am safe this way.

 

Even movie, game shops in front of everybody do sell unofficial copies of games, movies in Turkey with cheap prices so it is very much like it is legal in Turkey. No one does anything about this in Turkey. So dont think of it in the laws of USA when you talk to someone out of USA.

A pirated copy is a pirated copy. No matter who and where you are. It is a question of honor to buy a copy, just to give the creators some respect. And a credid card is not necessary for doing so.

 Pain elemental doesnt respawn, does it?

 

Its body get lost after dying.

Each independent country is responsible for itself. And things differ from country to country.

 

For example alcohol is illegal in Arabia, right? Are you breaking laws drinking alcohol where you are?

There is so much wrong with what you have said. Probably why everyone should receive a general education in a formal system before anything else.

Pretty much iwads are official id releases, most custom wads use the base resources from the iwads.

You don't. Doom is 10 Turkish Lira, not 30. The game is actually economically cheaper for you.

There are different things wrong about this world.

Minimum wage is about 15,000 dollars per year. A really cheap new car would be around $5,000. Most would be much more than that. Assuming you have to pay for food, housing, etc, you would just barely be able to afford a car.

 

Also, if my $5000 car costs 35,000 liras in Turkey, then they are the same price. Conversions yay!
