Alright, you've made me read this!

UPD: so much text! No, I'm not gonna read it.

I like learning about history so I may give this a perusal. So long as you realize, good sir, that while I'm spending time on your lengthy links, I could be spending more time playing quality Wads from Doomworld.

Heh. I love reading, and hate that these days everyone seems to want to cram 30-minutes long Youtube videos down my throat instead of what would have been a 5-minute read.

Good article, can't wait for the next part; which will probably tread ground already explored many times in the past, but I like the writer's voice going on here.

I wouldn't have complained if that article was a video narrated by that (Retro)Ahoy dude.

"The Shareware Scene, Part 3: The id Boys" https://www.filfre.net/2020/05/the-shareware-scene-part-3-the-id-boys/

A blogger named "The Digital Antiquarian" is writing a series on the history of shareware which naturally intersects with Mesquite in the early 90s. The result is extremely well written and acts as a more grounded counterbalance to the somewhat bowdlerized version laid down in Masters of Doom. I know nobody reads anything anymore and you probably aren't even reading these words right now, but they're good I swear.

(Seriously, thanks for that link, gonna read it over a meal later.)

That was a really well-written and interesting article. I scrolled all over looking for the next part! So close to Doom, yet so far! I may have to read more from him, he has a really compelling storytelling style.

Despite (or perhaps due to) the length, I like how the article feels like something coming out of a book. Shows just how professional the author is.

Dunno. I read it all, and other than a couple of small nuances, it seemed to be almost identical to the story I recall from Masters of Doom.
