Happy (Now on Idgames!)

i am sorry, i am trying to rebalance it, main issue here is that i don't really know what hmp is (not to talk about lower). So it's hard to understand what is too much and what is not. Trying my best ;)

For me and as seen on my latest map: totes crazy

 

I map as if the whole map is an ultraviolence

 

Afterwards I go through and take some monsters out of the medium setting and take even more out of the easy setting

 

That's basically all I really do

 

Occasionally I might add more health and items but for the most part I just remove monsters from the lower settings

that's what i do most of the time, in some maps i add resources. But in these latest maps with this high monster count it seems that it is not enough to cut some of them, i think i should cut like half of them, so to completely change the strategy in the fights themselves (for example love room should block your space, with half monsters you can run around and clear with no problems, becomes easy but also tedious, red room is meant to give you a tiny little space between the cyber and hks, if cut the hks it becomes too easy to escape the fight, but probably that's what hmp and lower are supposed to be). Anyway, i did it while at work so if you want you can download latest version and try again, if not then you can just cheat it i won't be offended Clippy my dearest friend! Play 30, and play it secretly.

You will decide if to do a video or not, you are the only one who can decide about yourself, your future and your past.

IMO, HMP should be 20% easier than UV, and another 20% on top of that for the second difficulty.

seriously, you can of course make a video of map 30!

Map 31 is pretty doable and linear, i think you should play it on uv, map 32 is completely crazy but it s gimmicky (just open the door behind you please). It s an "icon of sin" map, but not really. See the credits after map 30 hahahah. Have a good one buddy

hi Pezl!!!

I would be really "happy" if you started playing this, it requires gzdoom, just that, can't you use it? I don't know about Zdoom but it shouldn't work on that sadly

version 0.9 is out, changed some stuff based on the playthrough made by Lucky_Edie, and i double checked hmp and and lower difficulties just to be sure that it was okay, i am not sure that they are okay but at least i know that there are no bug like the missing rocket launcher in map 3. Now i ll be playing all the maps again (which is quite the chore actually^^) and then i will release the wad, it may still have some problems but yea i think it's the time :)

Oh my... i played all the wad in hmp and it was so full of shit. Now i cleared everything up so i can officially say that hmp was implemented (for real this time), i also found other minor glitches, nothing particular, but i am ready when you are @Lucky_Edie

i just followed a youtube video for dummies, or else i wouldnt have make it^^ if you want i can send the link. You should upload your maps, you would get so many good reviews there!!

If i remember correctly, the review feature on ID games archive is broken since 2018

Ah, sorry, i meant-- you can leave reviews for idgames files, but not for wads submitted after late 2018. So i think the wad you reviewed recently was submitted before late 2018.

 

Anyway, is there any particular reason you use gzdoom format for this megawad in the first place ? Have you ever wondered why most of famous megawads out there used simpler format (like boom, for example) ?

oh i didn't know bout that!

Anyway, as i said in another topic i think, the problem was that being new to mapping and since i started playing considering Gz as the main port (i didn't even know the differences between boom and gz to be honest), i just started making the wad without caring about it. In the end it turned out to be gz only, it wasn't intentional but it was too late to return back. Next time i will surely pay more attention to this thing.

Boom format has less features than GZDoom format, but it makes the wad playable on the most sourceports, including prboom+ (unlike GZDoom format, which makes the wad only playable on GZDoom sourceport, i think). I use MBF format (MBF is pretty similar to Boom, just a little bit more complex) for my current wip megawad (Eleven Zero), because of two reasons.

Firstly, doom has an active speedrunning community, y'know-- finishing the map as fast as possible. The problem is speedrunners (at least the ones i know) don't try to speedrun wads that require gzdoom sourceport, due to the fact that gzdoom is terrible at recording demos. They usually aim for wads which could be played on prboom+ or crispydoom. I'm trying to make those speedrunners my audience as well, that's why i keep my wads playable on prboom+, by choosing MBF or Boom format.

Secondly, i remember there was a poll regarding community's favorite sourceport. Iirc, the poll shows that prboom+ is still the most used sourceport today (yes, not GZDoom), because prboom+ doesn't cause much lag and is capable of recording demos (like i said before).

 

I'm pretty sure that's pretty much why megawads such as Eviternity, Sunlust, Valiant, Ancient Aliens etc. also use simpler format.

 

To be honest-- you don't seem to used many gzdoom exclusive features in Happy either (just simple features such as earthquake, particle effect, textures as flat (and vice versa))

Also, iirc you said you use GZDoom-Hexen format earlier, actually if you want to map in GZDoom format, you could've just used GZDoom-UDMF format instead. UDMF has the auto-align textures feature which could've saved you much time.

thank you for the advices and information, but do you know what t means to change 32 maps without even knowing if it would work?^^ Also i think that some of the stuff used via decorate affect the compatibility (not sure though). I just learned a lesson with this, and i also know that i shouldnt have used db2, that there was ultimate (rotfl), and that i should have used udmf, a lot of stuff that i learned later, when i was already almost done. I am fine with this, i didn't think this big when i started this, i just wanted to make some maps, and i actually did it, that was my only purpose. The important is that everyone can play them, even with mods (beautiful doom for example works perfectly), and that they can have fun. Next time i will think about the rest as well. In Djinn i made other mistakes, everytime we make new mistakes unless we plan everything from the beginning, but if we limit ourselves to planning when do we start mapping for real? I know these are just excuses, i am sorry for those who don't want to use gz for whatever reason, this is what i can offer at the moment. Next work will be probably on boom. Thanks again mate.

 

 

EDIT: by the way, some of the monsters (like the bosses, the black worm that i made for example, won't work on boom, i think i tried it some time ago, don't ask me why!)

 

SECOND EDIT: also if you look at the wad via slade (yea i know its a mess) you will see many zscripts, i am not sure, but if they are called zscript i think it's because they will only work with zdoom, am i wrong?
