DBP24: Spaceballs: The Sequel: The Search For More DBP Maps

Recommended Posts

I've just played through this myself, having only gotten round to contributing right at the end of the month! We've ballsed it up in the best way possible... But did drop a couple of bollocks, so there is an RC2 incoming. Bug reports would be appreciated!

We know that GLDEFs are missing, there's a few minor texture issues and a secret is inaccessible on MAP03 (and there's an unfinished optional door there too), just to get you started!

EDIT: Also that the TITLEPIC isn't quite displaying right in prboom+

I think you're now legally obligated to give the exact same response to every bug report:

Spoiler

"Fuck! Even in the future, nothing works!"

There's a buggy easter egg specifically about this ;)

Wow, that's really cool! Obviously late 80's Star Wars parodies was the market most in need of tapping...

Looks great! Is there co-op support by chance?

Yep, there's coop starts but it's not balanced for coop. My map (map03) has some coop/mp only monsters but they haven't been tested at all.

superb wad

Was playing this in mp the other day, but i noticed that  one of the maps breaks in mp, since something closes that cannot be opened again from the outside.  I just cannot remember which map, but it must have been in one of the first 5 maps or so.

We'll be running an internal coop session this weekend which will help us find softlocks and fix them. If you do happen to find out what map it was in that'd be very useful.

I am having a blast with this! Keep up the killer work!

The shotgun muzzle flash pops up when fired. Just thought I'd share that. :)

Here's another let's play 1.0:

Spoiler

So this is another good DBP honestly.

I've constantly compared it to Doomed Space Wars, and it mostly rises to its level for sure, if only the scale would've been just as impressive as it was in that mod on certain maps, but apart from this, this is solid. Great textures, sprites, fun maps, and very consistent design. As said in the let's play, my only gripe with it is that it lacks noticeably in polish in some regards, mostly in terms of visual details, namely:

- The muzzleflashes of the weapons are all over the place. The Chaingun has one that looks quite low quality, the Plasma Rifle still uses the stock Shotgun muzzleflash and it looks a bit jarring as it isn't even properly aligned.

- The SSG reload feels quite sluggish and awkward now, not sure if it really is slower but it definitely feels that way. Makes using it odd as a result.

- The new monsters do not have a complete sound replacement, making them strange at times. HKs and Barons work fine with the original death sfx, but I would suggest those used in KDIZD instead, while the Imps, Arachnotrons, and the Worms still use the stock death sounds. The dog-like bite sound of the Worms is out of place, and the Imp death sounds don't really fit the new goblin-like monster. That being said, no idea what could they be substituted with tbh, but I definitely do believe they're due for a replacement.

- Some map textures could be smoothed out a little around the edges. Some windows look quite sharp right now thanks to the edges.

- Dynamic lights can bleed through some spots in the snowy-looking map. No idea if that's due to them or the map, not even the shadow maps fixed the bleeding.

But apart from these polish-related issues, I've very much enjoyed my time with it.
