Erick194 Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) Hi guys I was working with the QUAKE 64 MIDIS and extracted the midis and the sound source, thanks to @Kaiser again for creating wadgen, since it is based on the system he created for the extraction of midi and sound from Doom64, as expected, the midis contain more hidden notes and sound a bit different from the N64 version, in the file QUAKE64.zip contains 2 files (QUAKE64.pk3 and QUAKE64.sf2), in the file QUAKE64.pk3 there is a folder called "N64_LIMITED_NOTES" this contains the same music but with limited high notes as N64, playing them with the correct note and more similar to the N64, name the sound effects based on the Quake Pc, the sounds that are called "SFX %%. mid" I could not identify them with the original game. I hope you enjoy the music. QUAKE64.zip Edited June 4, 2020 by Erick194 12 Quote Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Thank you so much for doing this! The sounds seem to be PC versions without the 8-bit noise, so it could be a PC mod down the line. Plus that soundtrack could be combined with the Doom 64 soundfont to make GEC Master Edition and Retribution use midis (and even custom versions) from both of Aubrey Hodges' soundtracks :) . Gerardo194 Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) Check out these tracks, some of them are reused midi from Doom64 and PSXFinal Doom, not sure if there is PSXDoom there... Believe me, I never noticed that "I'm the Soul Eater" from Quake 64 was actually "Bells of Agony" from PSXFinal Doom. Edited June 6, 2020 by Gerardo194 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ya that was something I discovered when adjusting them to different sample rates later. There are some exceptions to the 8 kHz on there but it has been a while, so I cant remember which ones specifically. So Midway definitely knew they could go to higher sample rates, especially when you look at some of the sample rates used in their earlier ports. It was likely due to having to fit it on cartridge, since Quake 64 has a lot more sounds than Doom 64. I remember hearing that Quake 64 has reduced texture resolution too, likely for cartridge size as well, which is probably why they added colored lighting to compensate. Midway seemed to really skimp on cartridge sizes to reduce cartridge costs and maximize profit. Kind of like what Capcom sometimes does with Switch cartridges now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
