Unpopular Doom Opinions

Secrets fights are fun and they are basically bonus contents for people who are actually willing to spend time exploring the maps.

Ultimate doom builder needs a tutorial for doom2 format.

@Nefelibeta Fun? Yes. But for beginners, also frustrating, because the first 2 games don't have that many secret fights. And the ones they have, are...errm...unfun to search for.

I guess you don't need to kill all monsters to beat a map. :/

I've learned to give up thanks to the crappy school of my home town and even worse relations with parents who don't believe in mental health.

Doom is actually a subtle allegory of class struggle, political tension and economic antagonism

Target prioritization is a useful intro concept that has good value in normal maps, but in harder maps that often require obscure approaches, it starts to be very inefficient and should be replaced by other ways of looking at things.

Vanguard would have been better than Valiant if the last map (not talking about the Punch out one) didn't exist.

At Doom's Gate is only decent, and in general the metal and other upbeat songs in Doom's soundtrack are mediocre or outright annoying with a few exceptions. The songs that establish a real atmosphere or fill you with outright dread like Sign Of Evil and Suspense are where Doom's soundtrack mostly shined.

Doom eternal art style is better than doom 2016 art style.

I like both, and they both have their advanrages.

- Doom 2016 artstyle has the best corrupted techbases, and some of its monsters look phenomenal (Baalgar Cyberdemon, Mancubus, Zomby Soldier).

- Doom Eternal artstyle works in a wider set of locations. It is also closer to Doom 1-2 look. (While I like the look of 2016 cyber, I wish it would not have been THE Cyberdemon. Doom Eternal tyrants would be much better in this role.)

But if I must choose one artstyle, I would chose Doom 2016.

That said, my perfect NewDoom arcstyle would be a mix of Doom 2016 and Eternal.

I can't seem to get interested in the current generation Doom games, they seem soulless and Doomslayer is cringe.

I don't really know what it is, the figure of a man (god?) silent and badass looks a little meeh

I'd need to replay Eternal but, personally, I think Doomslayer was at his best in DOOM 2016. Just the way he didn't listen to any orders he received and did what he considered best like with the argentum cylinders early on. His actions spoke a thousand words.

Plutonia is the best wad ever made. It still hasn't been topped IMO

Okay, I'll admit he's a little nice. But the story in general, the game, hmm I don't know man... 🤔

People tend to overrate Romero's level design. Not all the time, but a lot.

And they tend to throw Sandy and McGee in the bin. Less so now, but I still see quite a bit of that on youtube

Agreed!
Wait, I actually like Plutonia more, but I guess TNT is better.

I've heard some jokes about Romero's levels, like how "bad" or "unfair" they are, honestly I don't know why would someone hate on Romero's level design.

That's a hot take. I honestly don't know if I can argue it, because I still have a blast replaying Plutonia. Idk, something like Alien Vendetta or maybe Ancient Aliens are more consistently enjoyable to me.

Final Doom rocks and I love both games.

It's not that it's hated, it's the fact that people overrate it.
