LAN Suggestions and WAD Organization Tips

I've been playing Doom since it was released and the mods nowadays blow my mind. I have a LAN party coming up and I'd like to get my friends into it.

 

What are your opinions on the best first WAD/Mod combos for noobies to hook them on? I'm thinking Brutal Doom with Maps of Chaos - something fast-paced, gory, violent and in-your-face-itchy-trigger-finger-action.

 

With THAT being said.....

 

I went on a WAD tear and downloaded dozens of files from various Youtube vids and whatnot, and now I don't remember what the hell goes with what. How does everyone else organize their WADs so they know which combos to play? I guess I should have started making an excel file and added everything as I found videos that looked fun and downloaded the WADS for them.

How the hell do I know what is fun to play with what? I think I made a mess of things.

Personally, I'd start with some classic wads without weapon or monster wads. AV is a good, safe choice.

 

For organizing wads I keep them in separate folders which makes it clear as to how they can be matched up

 

..\pwads\maps

..\pwads\megawads

..\pwads\weapon mods

..\pwads\monster mods

..\pwads\misc mods

etc

 

If you want to find a quick wad list use Doomseeker to find a server you like then copy that.
