USQC Unloaded! [FINAL RELEASE]

Recommended Posts

Hello there,
The mappers and beautiful folks over at USQC have appeased your ever-growing DOOM DM appetite once again.
After playing endless hours of DM in our community we figured that maps made for 4 players didn't work with servers filled to to max with 16+ players; it just became a fragfest of whoever got the shotgun first, (which was always Shawn); and so many players had different tastes and styles of DM maps, none could be appeased. We decided we weren't going to appease everybody, but we could at least try on making a mappack for DM that could remedy these issues and have some fun. So we made USQC: Unloaded, and after well over one year in development, hopefully it was worth the wait, I mean, finished for all to enjoy.

The Details:
The USQC: Unloaded Community Project is a community-made mappack for DOOM 2 DM on Zandronum, containing 24 maps and featuring countless content ranging from huge maps that rival the size and complexity of a Quake map; and smaller maps which play like your favorite 90s WADs (only the good ones of course). With such a wide array of maps, none could go hungry ever again.

Lol

I look forward to leaving extensive feedback here. @Doomkid and I will do a recorded Doomshack Plays session as we play through the maps and give our thoughts on them once the wad is actually available for public feedback to make it better

Having a public link would be a huge plus, the more people eyeballing the maps the more chances there are to find bugs, layout flubs and all that good stuff, even for people who don't use discord

Thank you for your suggestions, and after much consideration, I've decided to stick with my decision and hold off the link regardless for the live release due to the nature of the maps. They require a specific setting and atmosphere, and SP doesn't do them justice. We've done countless playtests and everything in the WAD is in order how we like it, and we're happy at where it is. The link will go up Wednesday.

Although, if you are actually interested in these maps, you can join us Wednesday Night on Zandronum. You don't need discord, I'll alert all following this thread when the server goes up. It'd be easier with a full server to find and organize all the bugs, and I'd love for any and all feedback I can garner.

I seriously doubt anyone wanted to do SP runs on these maps, it’s more about being able to observe if there are any “universal sins” in the designs, things that don’t require a second player or group to notice - stuff like cramped hallways, narrow doorways, areas that are difficult to navigate, snag spots, dead ends, long/meandering stretches, poor placement of spawns (too close to one another), and other things that are just generally not conducive to a fast, smooth playing DM experience.

Those kinds of issues can be observed and ironed out before you even get to the play tests really, but since you guys have already done testing I’m guessing you’ve already ironed most of those issues out. However In my mapping experiences, I’ve found that even after trying to eliminate all of those issues, there are still other things playtesters notice such as clashy texturing or areas where combat doesn’t flow as well as it seems it should on paper.

Either way, ultimately as long as you’re happy with the maps, that’s all that truly matters. Even if you guys choose not to act on it I’ll leave detailed reviews here when it comes time to playtest!

What Doomkid says is true. As long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters to be honest. That being said it's pretty obvious you don't care about feedback (and from what I saw in the early phases never did), so I won't bother leaving any detailed remarks. Unless the wad has had significant reworking since the June 12 build you can find publicly available on TSPG, there is an enormous amount of basic quality control and quality of life changes to consider. But this is fine for a first step into mapping, and I hope you and the other mappers improve as you go along, and consider taking more feedback in than what's found in your echo chamber.
