How do i change the face from the status bar?

Well, to change the doomguy face, you had to make a new wad with those graphic changed.

To do so, download SLADE3, open Doom 2, Ultimate Doom, TNT or Plutonia, search for the graphics that are the Doomguy's face. 

There are 42 graphics that represents Doomguy's face, So yes, you need to remplace the 42 graphics that start with the lump suffix STFxxxxx.

 

BUT DON'T EVER DELETE OR CHANGE ANYTHING FROM THE ORIGINAL GAMES. YOU WILL RUIN THEM MAKING IT UNUSABLE TO PLAY.
 

To replace them, you need to create a new wad, so go to FILE, and click create new wad. A new tab with nothing on it will open.
Then drag and drop the graphics you want to use as subtitutes on the new wad, they had to be the exact number as the one the doomguy's face has, if not, Doomguy face will show on some instances. Also, they need to be on the exact same size, that is 24x29.
After that, select all the new graphics, right click on them, go to the graphics tab, choose ''convert to'' and a new window will open.
On this new window you will see the different formats to convert to, you need to select Doom Gfx (paletted).
Below, two little windows will show the graphic you want to convert, down them, are two drop down arrows with a list of possible color palettes for your new graphics.

You need to choose Doom on both sides.
Once you have the new 42 graphics for the face properly converted to doom gfx and named as each one of the corresponding images of the original face, go to FILE amd just SAVE AS whatever you like, but try not to use spaces on the name.

 

Now load this new wad you created on the sourceport of your choice, and thats is. You have new face on the hud!
