MassiveEdgelord Posted July 1, 2020 I was wondering since classic doom games are on the switch store. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted July 1, 2020 What do the classic Doom games have to do with it, it's a distinctly different game. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

But anyways I meant to say I was wondering if it's worth the purchase since I saw it on the store. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chip Posted July 1, 2020 I got it on PS4, and it adds several new levels, so it is very much worth it! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Boaby Kenobi Posted July 1, 2020 If you've played PSX Doom then it's highly recommended as Doom 64 is slower like PSX Doom and features more of the disturbing soundtrack and alternative sound effects. It's my favourite Doom from all the Classic Doom games. Highly recommended for fans of Doom. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
cybdmn Posted July 1, 2020 Doom64 on the switch is definitely worth the $5, let alone for the horizontal gyro-aiming, which make it far more precise once you are familiar with it. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Labryx Posted July 1, 2020 Bought it on my switch a few weeks back. No regrets here, I say you should definitely pick it up. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ZeroTheEro Posted July 1, 2020 short answer: yes. long answer: it's a pretty polished port, by all means. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted July 2, 2020 It’s cheap; you can rebind your controls; there’s new content. Buy it! devs: please put an FPS cap option in the switch port 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ArpeggioPegasus Posted July 2, 2020 It's better than the DOOM / DOOM II ports for sure. Widescreen, key rebinding, nicer graphics. I just hate having to sit through all the FMVs everytime I launch the game. Other than this, then yeah it's a very solid port and an overall improvement over the original N64 version. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
chemo Posted July 2, 2020 (edited) Absolutely! The port itself is great, and it's an absolute steal at its $5 price. You could easily buy a sandwich more expensive than that. Edited July 2, 2020 by chemo 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh I guess delete the FMV files? Ah removing the read permission bit is sufficient Edited July 2, 2020 by Jon 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Devalaous Posted July 5, 2020 Ive bought the game twice, for PC and PS4. Its a very good port. Just wish it wasn't tied to Bethesda, the assclowns that do everything in the industry wrong. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Speaking of D64, @Quasar did you guys get the greenlight to patch the game any further in the meantime? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted July 5, 2020 If they dont, it just proves my point about Bethesda/Zenimax. Not that anyone would honestly refute it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

And how, exactly? Keeping in mind patches aren't free and QA departments don't have infinite time, especially for a game that's already perfectly functional outside of odd nitpicks by us grognards. Chip Posted July 6, 2020 I got the game on PS4, so I have no idea about PC. Does it support modding on PC? another question I have is if DOOM 64 is supposed to be part of the Bethesda console ports like DOOM 1/2/3, or part of a whole new thing, since it was also released on PC? I've heard the console DOOM ports are being added to PC, too, but weren't at launch. Sorry for getting off topic. But like I said before, it adds more levels. also, the controls are so much easier, since they aren't whatever the hell that thing was that you used to control a Nintendo 64. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Are you talking about the rumours that these new versions of Doom are going to replace the ones on Steam that run using DOSBox? Also, the N64 controller really isn't that bad. I just bought Doom 64 for my PS4 earlier as I saw it was on sale for only £2 and there's really not a lot you can buy for that these days. I have to say the port is extremely accurate and feels great using the controller. I never played D64EX as it just doesn't feel right to me to use a mouse and keyboard for D64 but on PS4 with the controller it's super tight, and the difference in using the d-pad and the stick for faster turning feels exactly like it did in the N64 original. Movement also feels great. Terrific work by all those involved in remastering the game. Also, whoever came up with the idea to navigate the map using the PS4 touchpad deserves some praise. Jon Posted July 7, 2020 This is a lovingly made, authentic version of a game that ultimately it turns out I really don’t like very much. I might try a mod/pwad to replace the music and sfx with vanilla alternatives (the main reason I dislike both psx doom and doom 64) and see if I can find something to enjoy. No shade to nightdive, you’ve done an excellent job. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

What further patches could be needed? Honestly the only extra I'd like to see would be an update of Doom64 EX's game code. Just the bits needed to make it compatible with the official IWAD and demo-accurate; no need for all the legally troublesome middleware for user accounts and stuff. As for further patches, I dunno. But I do seem to recall seeing a report about the Unmaker's graphics getting borked when loading some wads. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Don't know if this has been fixed yet, but the second map in Lost Levels, it's possible to get stuck easily by leaving an area before getting a key, and not being able to return there. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That's not a bug, it's just one of Robotnik's deadly speed traps. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
