joepallai Posted July 6, 2020 I used to want to be a writer, and this was like combining the best elements of writing, DM'ing and something else...something new that combined every art form into a whole. Originally I pursued level design in order to get into the game industry, then having met several people in the industry and after listening to the horror stories; I switched to level design as my hobby. (my job was easy enough, paid well and I didn't have to move every 5 - 8 months) I think the real question, for me, is why do I still do it after all this time? And the only reason I can come up with, is that I'm still pursuing my perfect level; one where I'm 100% satisfied and can look back on it and say, "I couldn't improve it further". I still have ideas that are new (to me at least) and I get interested in seeing how those play out. I enjoy the problem solving aspect of level design, which keeps me interested in editing. There's still things I want to achieve with level design so I can see me slowly working away at these ideas until I'm thoroughly bored of it. Which will be awhile, as I eventually want to make a game using the engine. None of my other hobbies have been as satisfying as level design. There is just something to it that only this delivers. I get to create a world and let others play in it, nothing else compares to that. Joe 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Chainie Posted July 7, 2020 I was quiet boy with low self-esteem when i started to make wads. It was for me the only way to escape from reality, find friends and to do something significant, as i thought. Today i keep doing it only because i still have some number of ideas which i want to see as doom levels. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
