Bryan T Posted July 4, 2020 I hate waiting for lifts in this game. Is there a reason why they aren't just always at ground level and raise up when you get on? Anyway, it got me to thinking about how much time I've spent waiting for these so here's some rough math. I figure I've averaged an hour every other day for the past 8 years or so. We'll say an average of 1 lift a minute of gameplay. For those out of the know, lifts are 3 second waits. 3 seconds x 60 lifts per hour = 180 x 185 days (half a year) = 555 minutes * 8 years = 4440 minutes or 74 hours. 74 hours of waiting for lifts. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted July 4, 2020 This is a strong argument for superfast Boom lifts or teleporters! Waiting times aren’t all bad though, it gives you a second to have a drink and scratch your ass (preferably in that order) 17 Quote Share this post Link to post

Roofi Posted July 4, 2020 I sometimes like to wait in front of regular or slow lifts. Using a lot of fast lifts tends to make the map less "natural" in my opinion by wanting to make the progression too smooth. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
NuMetalManiak Posted July 4, 2020 If your lift or wall takes minutes to drop all the way down even after I have finished all the combat in the area, your map is bad by default. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Final Verdict Posted July 4, 2020 (edited) I always used fast lifts for a very high area in maps. This is mostly due to the fact I once played a map many years ago where the lift out of the massive nukage pit took so long to get to the ground floor (yep it came down! Instead of going up) that you'd die even at full health. Of course there wasn't a rad suit in sight either. The lift was simply symbolic of false hope, you'd never survive long enough to get on it. baja blast rd. Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) I've gotten pretty used to doing something while waiting for the lift, if the map allows it: picking up health/ammo (I'll press the lift first and then go grab it), shooting a monster, etc. For that reason, I tend not to mind the regular lifts unless a map really overdoes them. In this bit of play from Magicdoom, I noticed I was doing that a bunch (the first few minutes of the vid are enough). Edited July 5, 2020 by ‹rd› 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

vanilla_d00m Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) This is a really long waiting lift on sigil map 4. While I'm waiting I'm thinking about my next good screenshot I might take so if it's post worthy I will put it on doomworld.com Edited July 5, 2020 by vanilla_d00m 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
