insertwackynamehere Posted July 8, 2020 Ah I just looked it up, that seems cool but the simpler, presumably Vanilla supporting alternative, is to just overload every IWAD with textures and flats from the others. Like provide all the IWADS and get doomx.wad, doom2x.wad, tntx.wad, etc, where it’s just the commercial IWAD but with textures from every game. Realistically I suppose you really just need doom and doom2 targets as there’s no reason to target any other commercial release besides texture support which is moot if this tool existed (as far as I know). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted July 8, 2020 (edited) Including Evilution and Plutionia in such a tool would be useful for anyone wanting to use their exclusive textures in a Doom 1 wad, or for someone who wanted to use textures from both in a Doom 2 wad. Dark Pulse Posted July 8, 2020 (edited) PSX Doom (and thus Saturn Doom by extension) did have Doom II monsters in the original Doom maps (and you could even find the SSG on a secret level), but only on Ultra-Violence difficulty. It's about as close to this idea as you'd "officially" get. Source ports, of course, have their own rules. Edited July 8, 2020 by Dark Pulse 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah what I mean more is that if you took every commercial IWAD and outputted Doom and Doom2 but with all textures, that should cover everything I think. As in, there wouldn’t be a reason that I can see to output TNT or Plutonia but with all textures as it would serve no purpose that Doom2 with all textures didn’t already serve. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted July 8, 2020 There could be the odd fringe case where they own Final Doom but not Doom 2 :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Not only is there the flat that ruins vanilla compat, but WFALL is brown for some dumb reason. The old as hell DOOM1-2.WAD properly implements the Doom1 textures into Doom2 in a totally vanilla compat way, doesn't bother adding flats, and doesn't mess with WFALL at all, which makes sense since it wasn't a stock standard texture until Plutonia. It's a shame this wad has basically been forgotten and replaced with the inferior one, no clue why. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
