Doom Builder 1: where are my monsters?

NoXion

Question

I've decided to dip my toes into the world of Doom mapping, and so I downloaded Doom Builder 1 because this laptop I'm using has a CPU that is too weedy for Doom Builder 2. I've managed to get the point where I create a simple box room and put things in it.

But when I made a box with a player spawn, super shotgun, some ammo and three pinkies in it as a test, none of the things are visible in the 3D mode. When I playtest the level in GZDoom, I spawn in fine and the super shotgun appears, but nothing else shows up.

Does anyone know what's going on? How can I fix this?

First thing I would look at is the difficulty setting for the monsters, i.e. at what difficulties they spawn. Next thing would be to check of your Doom Builder might have the "-nomonsters" flag (I think that's what it's called) set for testing the map.

OK, I just remade the test level completely from scratch, and now it's working perfectly. Not sure what I was doing wrong last night, since I'm pretty sure that I did check the flags. Maybe I just wasn't as diligent as I thought.

Thanks for the help; consider this one solved.

Hm. Weird. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but glad it's working for you with the "remake" :)

I think I must have just been tired last night. You gave me motivation to try again with a clearer head, sometimes that's all it takes.

It's been ages since I used Doom Builder, but IIRC Things didn't show up in the 3D preview at all.

I've seen screenshots of 3D views with things rendered, but I'm assuming those were from Doom Builder 2.

In that case I would recommend using DoombuilderX.

Can it run on an i5-8250U 1.60Ghz CPU with 8GB of RAM and an Intel UHD Graphics 620 display adapter?

Yup, fired up classic DB and no Things in 3D mode. After all, it was one of DB2's major improvements over DB.

Press T to toggle things in 3d mode :)

I still use db1 on my new win10 pc, had to install an extra dll file from windows but it works.

Awesome. I think I had to add the same .dll file as well, lucky it wasn't hard to find.
