Juza Posted July 13, 2020 I check the left or right, explore it for a bit, then go back and check the other side entirely, and probably leave the middle for last. I'm not sure if it's just intuition, but that's a routine that I always do when presented with this situation. I'm a person who heavily dislikes nonlinearity in Doom, because being provided with so many routes always gets me thinking "what if the other side provides me with better resources? What if I was supposed to get a new gun by going into one of the other available rooms first, before heading into this one?". I had an unnecessarily hard time in Plutonia 2's MAP29 Ticket to Eternity, because it's so open, but you're supposed to follow a specific path to gather required guns for other parts, even though all of them are available at once; I find that's how most nonlinear levels are designed, and it gets me anxious. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Babel Posted July 13, 2020 I think go straight through the middle is the worst decision, u can get attack from the other sides. Usually i go where the medikit or ammo is 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

joepallai Posted July 13, 2020 It really depends on what looks most interesting to me as a player, what will give me an advantage, and how lost do I think I'll get. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
kalaeth Posted July 13, 2020 situational I think. on that particular case, I'd go left because the shotgunner would be the biggest threat (pinkie won't shoot at me and riffle dude deals less damage), and then I'd likely follow that to the end of the path. I also try to clear a "sector" before opening any door or pressing any button unless I'm trying to run to the end 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Labryx Posted July 13, 2020 Friend of mine told me years ago, "When in doubt, choose left." So far it's works pretty well for me in all games I play. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Z0k Posted July 13, 2020 for me is more matter of "where i can get armor or weapon first" so i would kill the shotgunner firt to get the shotgun, then the former human and then pinkie and take the path of the former human. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ButteredToast Posted July 14, 2020 1. walk through the largest door 2. kill everything 3. realize you have just killed everything 4. hump the wall for ten minutes straight looking for secrets 5. find out that you discovered all secrets already because they were all on the main path for some reason. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doom-X-Machina Posted July 14, 2020 Typically left, but depends on the WAD. 18 hours ago, Doom_Dude said: The path of least resistance. I like the path of most resistance. More murdering :D 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Job Posted July 14, 2020 Save scum. Choose a path. Dont like it? Reload. Win. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Good-Old Posted July 14, 2020 In Doom, it depends on what monsters there are in the rooms. For some reason though, in Wolf3d I always go right. Just like the OP mentioned. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
