Successfully hosted my first community project and pushed it in idgames finally. Feels good man... (⁠✿⁠^⁠‿⁠^⁠)

Last year and this year I really got over my aversion to finalizing projects and have at least 3 different wads originating from different years in RCs or actively submitted to /idgames

actually picking up the game and playing through Knee Deep in the Dead (UV).

i know it ain't much but i'm rather new to the game

No real or false SR50 achievement today, something, at least to me more substantial :

 

I’m still on my trip through French Doom Community’s work started on another thread and, today, I fell on Community Chest 4 with 3 maps made by @WH-Wilou84. Now playing UV.


The first one is easy but very nice but the last two are quite something !
So, here’s where I am right now :
Map 01 UVMAX (blind)
Map 09 UVMAX (after a first playthrough with saves, and five tries)
Map 28 still on my way but confident on HMP

 

So, where is the achievement ?
Beating map 09 UVMAX.


Even though it’s far from being the hardest map made in Doom engine, it may not even be the hardest map I’ve beaten so far made by WH (that may be PRCP map 23 but was UV with saves), it was something for me because, on my first playthrough with saves I had to overcome some obstacles due to some bad choices for my route, was regularly really low on health and managed to beat it. Also, it seemed to me that this map was, not punishing but a bit tight on ammo and that’s another difference with PRCP map 23.

Map 28 is another level and I hope I may beat it UV with saves.

 

Sorry for the ego trip but I also wanted to point something that appeared clearly during my playthroughs :

 

There is bad and good points focusing on some sporadic maps on a 32 megawad but here, at least, playing successively these three maps, I realized that, take the three together, make a small wad out of it, you obtain some kind of prequel to Swim with the whales.


Of course there are differences (monsters in the first map, different combat designs (even though they are not that far from each others), WH is less abstract…) but, try it and you’ll see I may not be exactly right but neither totally wrong (don’t pretend I’m the first one seeing it, though).

 

 

OK : having finished map 28 HMP with saves I maintain my point (may extend it to some pre-Wormwood vibes). The fights are less hardcore than in SWTW, but still really hard ! I'll just add that, a bit tired, didn't want to try map 28 UV now... but got caught by the beginning of map 29, went through it with iddad : really made me think about early Ribbiks, also ! Ok, maybe I see Ribbiks everywhere but... I maintain my point :) .
