Saving, Pistol Start, Mid Level Saves

I agree with the consensus, play whatever way is fun for you. I pistol start my own maps, because I made them and I KNOW they are designed to be pistol-started, but on every other wad I play continuously, save power-ups if possible for the next level, and use saves - at least, the first time I play through. I usually drop my saves between encounters, not mid-fights. I might use a second save if I didn't do an encounter well.

 

Even if you like to pistol start, I think it's probably a reasonable idea to play continuously the first time so you have some knowledge. Pistol starting completely blind could lead to frustration and quitting.
