theretromike Posted July 28, 2020 (edited) I know this is a bit old but I haven't seen any post about it on DoomWorld. So in 1997, we had a TV show in France called "Les Carnets de Monsieur Manatane" made by the Belgian comedian Benoît Poelvoorde. Overseas, you might know him for his mockumentary about a serial killer named "Man Bites Dog" (C'est arrivé près de chez vous). In one episode of his TV show, he took the role of the Doomguy, making all the familiar faces of our beloved marine: I especially like the Ouch face which is very similar to the original one: Here's the episode in low quality on Dailymotion: The video quality here is crap so I strongly advise you to check my DVD upscaled version instead, via this Google Drive link:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xpx3u0q6ebqkxR7coF4AOsCbXvV1o9gE/view?usp=sharing Unfortunately, there's no English subtitles available, even on the official DVD set, but to summarize a bit, Mr Manatane (Benoît Poelvoorde) is talking about his virtual traveling video game called "Bosna - All over the world" that he's selling for $53. In his game, we can visit Bosnia Doom style during Bosnian War. He then showcase two levels before getting a Game Over. If you would like to get a translated version of this episode, just let me know and I'll see if I can do something about it. Edited July 28, 2020 by theretromike 22 Quote Share this post Link to post
Boaby Kenobi Posted July 28, 2020 That video is hilarious. I can understand only about a third of it as he's speaking pretty fast. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Juza Posted July 28, 2020 (edited) I like how the plasma rifle is pretty much a mini-BFG, using 20 cells for an exploding shot. Also, both shotguns use 5 shells per shot, the chainsaw consumes some sort of ammo, and the rocket launcher uses 10 rockets per shot... yet is still awfully weak. And as a given, the right-hand ammo counter and armor percentage don't change at all. Cool how they used the original Doom midis too, I guess. Doomkid Posted July 29, 2020 LOL, this is definitely one of the better “Doom in real life” videos I’ve seen (there’s thousands of them out there). It’s doubly good for being so old! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I know right :) and he's Belgian so he does speak with a slight accent. If there's a demand, I'll do some English subtitles so everybody will be able to understand it. 9 hours ago, Juza said: I like how the plasma rifle is pretty much a mini-BFG, using 20 cells for an exploding shot. It's easier and faster to edit the numbers five by five (or ten by ten) rather than doing it one by one. 5 hours ago, Doomkid said: LOL, this is definitely one of the better “Doom in real life” videos I’ve seen (there’s thousands of them out there). taufan99 Posted July 29, 2020 Brutal Doom? Grezzo 2? Sharp Shooter 3D? Forget 'em all, Bosna is where the real deal is at! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
JBerg Posted July 29, 2020 That was hilarious and depressing simultaneously. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted July 29, 2020 lmao that's beautiful. I love the extra level of care they went into the details with his face animation, the use of Doom's weapons sprites and sound effects and he even plays on Ultra-Violence. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
