Cacodemons live-birth or lay eggs?

Recommended Posts

All the Cacodemon eggs that you don't see during your journeys should tell you that they don't lay eggs. It's actually more likely they reproduce through a method that heavily resembles mitosis.

I assume that this ties in nicely with Hexen's ovum.

Cacos travelling through the ether from one domain to the next and back :)

My question is where does pain elementals fit into all of this, are they female cacos? or are they male? If they are related to cacos then that means that lost souls are baby cacos, if that's true then does that mean that human souls turn into cacodemons on hell? Why do they lost and eye when growing up and why does pain elementals maintain both?

So many questions unanswered.

They hatch from an egg.

Here's the egg:

And here's the mother. You can see the exposed cloaca from which the eggs came out:

That would explain the state of that arsehole.

you inhale caco-egg spores like dust particles and they grow inside your lungs until you suffocate under the weight of developing caco-larve who then eat their way out of your body and use your remains for food until they are old enough to float.

This is the most sense I've heard in months.
Cacod-19.

That is way too elaborate of a biological life cycle chart for a fictional game character. Please tell me you found this and didn't make it strictly for this thread.

There is an observable scarcity of Pain Elementals relative to Cacodemons. In fact they are not seen at all until the Hellish invasion of Earth. If they're different sexes of the same species as indicated by this chart, then the complication of unbalanced sexual populations would require further explanation.

My observations of Hadean (Haydenean?) biology lead me to believe that cacos and PEs, while sharing taxonomic similarities indicating possible relation, are nonetheless two separate species.

Maybe they're made of paper mache and evil in demon factories.

I once dreamt of something like that: a Cyberdemon with a giant papier-mache  pumpkin head roaming a huge doll house.

[..] a reverse Queen bee situation where the male is hidden away & guarded, since Doomguy has never seen a male Cacodemon in his journeys.

Y'know, just 'cause it has no donger, doesn't mean it's no male. Perhaps they're like snakes and such, and it "pops on demand" or something.

Nonono. They appear after its demise too. Ever heard of No Rest for the Living - or for that matter any non-prequelistic canon campaign released after 1994?

Maybe Eternal has an answer. I don't want to know it.

Or perhaps so many questions that shouldn't be answered?

Lost souls could just live in a symbiotic relationship with the pain elementals, though it's also possible that pain elementals simply gobble up lost souls, as the floating skulls are very eager to escape from its bowels, and show no true loyalty to them. Then again lost souls are called "dumb" by the manual, and their tendency to forget their targets implies that they simply don't distinguish between friend and foe for the most part.

The diagram could still be right!

The fathers (the PE’s) could have been in the nests caring for the young (like male penguins do) while the females were out fighting the DooM marine.

It also explain some why the PE’s show up in DooM 2 as they had to send both males and females to earth so they could reproduce and take over the world! :-P

Hence the infamous Scuba Steve's cock-a-demon? (NSFW and/or those under 18).

First there were at least two others so it's not like it's a unique monster, and secondly you don't know how many it has spawned and spread around everywhere before its last fight.

Oh god, That old Gif.

Old is relative...I've never seen it before, and the fact that there's a smartphone pictured (a multi-cam one, at that) puts it in the last 5 years or so. Now if we were talking about something like this....

Those pods are just exploding barrels in Heretic... I have proof. Lol.

Doom Eternal says all demons are just ancient corpses trapped in Hell- I'm assuming that's like a universal definition. Now, can they reproduce? I'd imagine so, considering demons are like goddamned ants at a picnic. I just... don't think it has anything to do with traditional biology. It's like mutation through magic. And I don't think "demons" themselves are actually flesh and bone, they just possess the flesh of mortals... like Evil Dead.

Going off the totally ludicrous example set by the Doom novels, they actually claim demons are like... built. The skeleton first, then skin is grown onto the skeleton using spawning vats, then presumably possessed. Or maybe the skeleton is possessed? Who knows, lol. Given that they're like magically mutated anyway, I'd say anything goes in Hell, lol. You see this dirt? That's a cacodemon. You see this rock? That's a cacodemon. You see this impaled zombie? That's a cacodemon. EVERYTHING IS CACODEMONS! [runs out room screaming]

Somewhat related, I once dreamt of a weird creature, no larger than a ping-pong ball that looked like a miniature PE with blue composite fly-like eyes, dark gray fly-like hair all over its body, fly wings on its back, and was able to spit flies. I knew it was called a "Mother-of-flies".

You see Timmy, when John Romero loves himself very much, he lays Caco eggs.
