Chris Hansen Posted August 10, 2020 (edited) The Doom Midi Repository is now open! www.doommidis.com Introduction @Doomkid recently posted about the need for a midi repository. I liked the idea a lot and even though I am not a webdesigner by trade or a musician I decided to try and help. I have therefore made a website where musicians in the community can upload their midis. It's a hobby thing that I hope you will enjoy and find useful. I am still making changes to the site and there might be bugs, features missing or things that aren't necessarily working as intended. I am open to reasonable critisism or suggestions. Bear in mind: It runs on WordPress and I am not a programmer, so there are limits to what I can do :) But I will try my best. The site works like this: You sign up and your user is a Subscriber by default. That means you can only comment and not post albums. Send me a message via the contact form on the page or here on DW to get promoted to Author if you want to add an album. Go to the Profile page to create a new post. Use a featured image for your post. Keep it sober and relevant! Upload as many midis as you like. I suggest a model where you post links to 5 selected midis and the rest in a zip. But you are free to choose. The post has categories that you can select. Tags are free to write yourself. They are important when visitors use the site's search function. Categories are scarce at the moment and you probably wont see exactly the one you need. Send me a message to request more and I will add them. The post is automatically posted unless you state otherwise. There's a FAQ on the site with answers to various questions. Write me if you don't find the answer for your question in it. If you think it sucks and can do a much better job, then I am totally willing to let you run this site or your own. I am doing this because I think it's a good idea and it didn't seem like anyone else was willing to do it. But again: I am not made for the job and I only want what's best for the community. This isn't Bandcamp quality but I think it might still do the job. I have run smaller websites before and I won't quit before finding a replacement. Anyway. Check it out! :) Edited August 17, 2020 by Chris Hansen 42 Quote Share this post Link to post
wallabra Posted August 10, 2020 I make music sporadically, and tend to not organize into albums. Is it possible to release individual tracks as well? Additionally, I often compose in a tracker format (like Impulse Tracker). It is supported by many source ports. even PRBoom+, so are common tracker formats supported as well? If not, are they planned? 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted August 11, 2020 I hope to see more people using this, I think it will make an excellent go-to spot for community musicians! 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted August 11, 2020 A new community pillar that shall keep strong for years to come the great temple of the Doom community. Fantastic job Chris! MIDI's soundtack are so freaking cool that every once in a while I search them on Youtube, like the Memento Mori one. Now I know where to go if I want to headbang to some midis. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
kwc Posted August 11, 2020 I've been making music for years and recently have been toying around with Anvil Studio, hopefully I will have something decent to contribute in the near future. I have to give you midi guys props because this workflow is something else.. wow. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

If not, are they planned? The short answer is yes to both of your questions. In theory, you can create as many albums/posts as you like with only 1 track in each if you so please. But bear in mind that if you have 100 tracks you will flood the site in it's current state with all your stuff. I think the best approach is to make 10 albums if you have 100 tracks. Something like that. You know, just to give room for other people's music as well :) It's a site for Doom music mainly midis. But if your other formats works well for the classic Doom games then I will allow you to upload them. My philosophy to the site is really very simple: Keep it relevant. That's all I ask for. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Final Verdict Posted August 11, 2020 This is a great idea, somewhat surprised that there wasn't one before this though. Props for getting it started. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris Hansen Posted August 11, 2020 (edited) Just in case I hadn't been clear enough about it: Feel free to sign up and create an album! We need more music on the site. I'm also curious to hear your opinions on uploading albums or tracks from e.g old megawads where perhaps the artists are unlikely to still be active in the community, but the music is too important not to be featured on the site. What could that be? Requiem? Memento Mori? I could do writeups on something like that. Or you could! That would be awesome! Don't hesitate! We need your support :) Edited August 11, 2020 by Chris Hansen 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't have 100 tracks, of course, nonono. It's more sporadic. I'm no Jimmy Limmy Dimmy nah. Quote It's a site for Doom music mainly midis. But if your other formats works well for the classic Doom games then I will allow you to upload them. The classic Doom games worked with a format developed by id themselves, called MUS. It's like a weird MIDI but stripped down and compressed. Although I think MIDI support was added in later versions of id Doom, either that or limit-removing ports. Also, I don't know any other Boom source port that has support for Impulse Tracker and the like. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It was because you didn't set the image as a so-called featured image. It didn't have an image to show, so I guess the default for the site is then to insert a blank pic. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris Hansen Posted October 30, 2020 Thanks to @Doomkid for sharing a lot of good links to midi/music related websites! They've been added to the Links page. And to anyone, who didn't know this site existed: Please feel free to join and share your midis! There's still room for more :) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Chris Hansen Posted August 24, 2022 I had to shut it down. It’s been handed over to someone else who can hopefully take better care of it. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
