That's a nice idea with the door, I didn't think about that. :) I guess that makes the next second much easier to achieve, maybe 17 would be a good time 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

4shockblast Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) WRT the Hacx demo, I am working on splitting the page into Hacx 1.1 and 1.2, and I haven't been able to play back Grazza's map 12 run on either; I tried both with hacx.deh and hacx_f.deh, it desyncs in roughly the same place. I'm not sure if there's an issue with the demo, or I am using the wrong params. Regardless, I'm not sure if people running against it should use Hacx 1.1 or 1.2. The textfile for the run indicates that HACX.DEH was used, and the differences between the two are in some monster healths, which seem to match between HACX.DEH and 1.2. But I'm not sure what other differences there are between the two; the Dehackeds are different sizes, but not sure if it's gameplay-altering, and same for map fixes and stuff like that. FWIW, the old run used Legacy and apparently freelook, and either way, a demo beating in PrBoom+ it isn't 100% comparable to it. :D Hence, I'm inclined to suggest people use 1.2, since it is the latest version, but I'm not sure. Grazza Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Hacx 1.2 should not be used for recording demos, period. For a start it removes all REJECT lumps, leading to differing and often undefined behaviour in the various compatible ports/exes. There are other issues too where things have been changed in ways that only work with Zdoom (and features that didn't work at the time with Zdoom omitted), but that one reason should be sufficient. My old demo plays back for me (I'm using Launcher.exe, so it loads the wads automatically if it finds ones with the appropriate names) with the following: Legacy.exe dated 7/7/2002 file-size 860,215 bytes (1.32 beta 5) hacx.wad dated 16/09/1997 file-size 22,102,300 bytes hacx.deh dated 28/03/2000 file-size 36,269 bytes The reason for the two different versions of the deh being in circulation is that for one of the 1.1 releases (files only) one version was used (hacx.deh), but it wasn't the same one used to make the dhacx.exe in the other version. The two versions uploaded to the archive included both. Yes, the difference is in the health of some enemies. Yes, for sure Legacy demos are not directly comparable with non-Legacy demos; my point was that there is nothing in the route that is specific to Legacy. Heh, all this makes Hacx seem like a mess for speedrunning in general. 😅 There are already some Hacx 1.2 demos on DSDA mixed in with the 1.1 ones, so I guess it will need a page either way, but I never actually played either, so I didn't realize that it broke things. I guess that's going to make things even more confusing because, typically, the latest version of a WAD is preferred for running, so I guess we'd need to display on DSDA/Doomworld to use 1.1, which isn't something we really need to do for any other wad. It also complicates any demos that play back in both; normally, on splitting a page, they would be placed in the latest version table, but if we choose 1.1 as the demo-friendly version, we'd have to reverse that I guess. Either way, for the purposes of this demo month, I guess people should stick with Hacx 1.1 for beating that demo. I tried to play back the Legacy run again, and I tried with the launcher, and no luck.. It still desyncs around the same time (one time it desynced slightly earlier), in a large area with a hole at the end of it where I think you need to go to the exit. I have no idea what else it could be, does the config file for this version of Legacy affect syncing somehow? My Doom 2 IWAD says file-size 14,604,584, modified 9/12/2011 FWIW, but I doubt it's that. I've definitely played back demos for various version of Legacy before, so I don't know what's up. Edited September 1, 2020 by 4shockblast 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

4shockblast Posted September 1, 2020 Community Chest 2 Map 32 Pacifist in 0:19. Regarding the Hacx run, apparently, I guess Legacy runs for that version just desync for me in general on my PC, so I guess it's just an issue with some compat or something, not sure. c232p019.zip 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
