Chezza Posted August 20, 2020 I don't believe I've seen this content posted on Doomworld before. *NOTE* Be aware, some of the cut content may potentially contain spoilers for the Doom universe and future DLC. You will see removed weapons, dialogue, story elements and context. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Hellektronic Posted August 21, 2020 If they don't reintroduce that gun later, I'm going to be pissed... it'd be a waste to keep it cut. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It has no practical purpose in the arsenal. Shotgun is the starting weapon, and anything the pistol would have been useful for us outshined by the heavy cannon which you get in the first level. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That kind of thinking will get you nowhere my friend... it's not about practicality, it's about having lots of guns to mess with, lol. People always look at things from a balancing perspective of "oh, it wouldn't have a role". So? Not all guns in reality have roles. Some guns just plain don't even make sense, but they exist. Also, an accurate hitscan weapon would be pretty nice. Edited August 21, 2020 by Hellektronic 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I dunno if you’ve noticed, but reality is extremely unbalanced and would make a terrible video game. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted August 21, 2020 Also is not like the pistol use their own ammo pool or is infinite, is just share the same ammo that the rifles and chaingun. It's may work if they give you the pistol for a level with low tier enemies, maybe for some other marine that is not DoomSlayer (*cough* Crash *cough*) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Heavy cannon already fulfills what the pistol would have done, in both automatic power and hitscan power due to the precision bolt. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
whatup876 Posted August 21, 2020 I thought a pistol could have made sense in some side mode, like a horde mode or something that allows a bit more stuff into it, that wouldn't make sense in normal gameplay. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You're missing my point here. The Unmakyr doesn't have a role either, it's a useless novelty... I wouldn't mind more useless novelties. *shrugs* The heavy cannon irks me because it's not reliable as a ranged weapon in a lot of cases, it's like a slower shooting plasma rifle clone that can snipe things. That's not the same as, say, an accurate semi-auto pistol. Even if it's weak, it's still something the game doesn't have- semi auto hitscan. You cut the pistol, you make the heavy assault rifle a slow projectile weapon, and now there's nothing like that. Then you could go further to argue the weapons in 2016 deathmatch were pretty much useless too, but that didn't stop them from doing it. It was just to add some extra content. I'd never argue with new stuff, ever. Edited August 21, 2020 by Hellektronic 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SYS Posted August 21, 2020 They didn't want the pistol to fall into the trap of being a powerful starter weapon. As a precision hit scan you could pepper weak spots quite easily. Giving it unlimited ammo would completely tank balance, and ruin the incentive to chainsaw early one. Share ammo with existing weapons and it would be a mess. My speculation anyway. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thoses weapons had a certain ussefullness on some maps mind you, the electric one can shreds appart instead of wait for Plasma, Grenade Launcher was better for camping, Hell, the red pistol is a buffed weapon. That scraped pistol, not so much, with that ammo take. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) Although we shouldn't get our hopes up, but if they ever re-introduce Snapmap into Doom Eternal (and I suspect if it ever happens it would be after majority DLCs released), they may introduce the pistol as an exclusive. This was the case for Doom 2016, where there was a range of unique (and sub-par) weapons available to use. Edited August 21, 2020 by Chezza 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
