TheMagicMushroomMan Posted August 30, 2020 Is there any reason not to use Vulkan? Any bugs or anything? I know it used to be glitchy but I get much better performance in Vulkan in more complex maps. Just wondering, thanks. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
CyberDestroyer Posted August 31, 2020 I honestly dont feel right using vulkan. It feels off when i use it. Idk what it is but i smell something wrong with it. Thats just me though, i prefer opengl. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted August 31, 2020 This might just be because I'm really not very technically-minded, but I don't really notice much difference between them, at least it's not very obvious to me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spectre01 Posted August 31, 2020 I use Vulkan, if available, since it always gives me a nice FPS boost compared to OpenGL. Both in GZDoom and Doom 2016. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted August 31, 2020 In GZDoom it has memory leaks, and the performance boost is marginal unfortunately, but otherwise, in games and ports that use the API there's no reason not to use it over GL, it's the future anyway. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
CrbnBased Posted August 31, 2020 I just want it implemented for Delta Touch on Android. Opengl isn't going anywhere on the platform anymore past 3.2, Vulkan support is really needed for mobile. Doom 2016 and Eternal use Vulkan on a 5 year old mobile chipset (Nintendo Switch) and get 30fps solid. If anyone knows how to integrate it into the port it could be a pretty cool feature to test, I love pushing these little handheld computers AKA phones. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Im getting sad that opengl is getting older and older and outdated by the minute. Opengl is like one of my best buddies. lol Edited August 31, 2020 by CyberDestroyer needed to make this easier to read 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DooM Bear Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) I got a pretty decent FPS boost in DooM 2016 using Vulkan (from memory, a good 40 FPS or so - although it was from like 140 to 180 so couldn’t tell any difference as my monitor can’t refresh that fast) but always select it when I have the option :-D Edited September 2, 2020 by DooM Bear 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Noob question, but would issues could memory leaks cause for people playing on Vulkan? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Nothing, just your system slowly running out of memory and GZDoom eventually crashing when it reaches its limit. Restart GZDoom, rinse and repeat, not ideal. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
