how would i change the background image for the hud?

I have been looking up this question on google for some time, but I've been unable to get a definitive answer.
I keep getting pointed towards ZScript, which is not what i want. I simpily wish to change the background image from this:


To something more like what Scythe 2 did with it:



(Oh, and if anyone has a blank status bar they can share for me to edit, that would be swell!)

The status bar is made up of several graphics. The background itself, the ARMS section, the small numbers and the larger numbers. If you only want to change the background, you have to replace two graphics: STBAR and STARMS.

There's a lot of amazing status bars on this page, and most of them tell you the wad they come from:

 

You can Google most of the wads and find them on either wad-archive or /idgames, extracting the status bar from wads using Slade3 is really easy and you can simply copy and paste them into your own wad for use with your other Dooming.

Cool, i didn't know the name of the statusbar graphics so that really helps
