Im planning on making a Silent Hill like map in Doom and was wondering if it's possible to make the map foggy like in the game:

You can use outsidefog MAPINFO property, and you can set it manually per sector (or to all tagged sectors depending on the method you use) This covers all the ways you can use to do it.

There are several ways to generate fog effects in GZDoom. Besides the obvious of using the fog properties, you can also use non-solid 3D floors, or place a bunch of translucent fog cloud actors, etc. It's also possible to combine several methods; for example Hexen in its fog levels also use fog cloud actors.

In plain Doom format no, but in GZDoom advanced format yes.

And it is even easier when mapping in UDMF.

In UDMF you don't need a script to set a sector's fade color; it's right in the properties.

But for vanilla/boom maps, you can change the colormap to another one that simulates fog (like hexen)
