Chipper35 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) I goofed up and affiliated all wads with Adobe Acrobat (I know....I know.....). Anyway: now I am trying to affiliate all Doom wads with gzdoom.exe (which still works fine on its own).........but that executable will not pop up in my potential files to 'associate file with'........? I browse to it, choose it.....fine. But: it just won't show up. I did manage to get doom.exe to show up, but that just flashes a quick little black window for 1 second and then vanishes. I'm confused?? I can still drag and drop a wad or pk file onto gzdoom.exe and everything is great.....but who wants to mess with that everytime?? VanaheimRanger Posted September 5, 2020 I highly suggest ZDL or another doom launcher. I actually have wad and pk3 files associated with Slade myself, and just use ZDL to launch wads. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
UndeadRyker Posted September 5, 2020 Are you running Windows? You should be able to "Look for another app on this PC" and it should open up a file browser so you can navigate to gzdoom.exe, wherever you put it. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted September 5, 2020 Yeah if you browse to it like shown in UndeadRyker's pic above and keep the "always use" checked it'll associate. I'm not sure what's meant here: 5 hours ago, Chipper35 said: but that executable will not pop up in my potential files to 'associate file with'........? I browse to it, choose it.....fine. You're browsing after clicking "Look for another app"? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chipper35 Posted September 5, 2020 All of this was helpful....thanks to you all!!! I did manage to get all wad files mapped to ZDL at least. Now: if I can just learn to operate that!! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
M_W Posted September 5, 2020 First, add your source port(s) by navigating to the "General Settings" tab at the top, and clicking the plus icon circled below. Then point it to your preferred source port, this will be an .exe file on Windows. In this case, I'm using PrBoom+. In your case, it will be GZDoom.exe, in addition to any other source ports you may want to use. Repeat this until all the source ports you want are in the left box, then click the plus symbol circled below to add your IWADs. Add each IWAD file you wish to include. You should now see this screen populated with IWADS and sourceports. Return to the "Launch config" tab at the top of the screen. The "source port" dropdown chooses which source port you wish to launch, and the box below it chooses which IWAD you wish to launch. MAP and skill allows you to launch the port directly into a level with your chosen difficulty level. Press the plus below "external files" to add PWADs in either .wad or .pk3 format. Press "Launch" at the bottom right to start the game. "Extra command line arguments" is where you will put additional options as if you were launching the source port from the command prompt. If you don't know what this means, don't worry about it. You shouldn't need it much for GZDoom, anyway. Hope this helps. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
