Should I play Multiplayer Doom?

Alright, I've been thinking about playing Multiplayer Doom, and it seems pretty cool. I had some questions though.

 

Do I have to sign up for like a billion sites or something? Are there any ports besides Z, the other Z and Odamex for multiplayer? Do I have to use Discord or something? Are there any pro-gamer tips for deathmatching?

Firstly you won’t have to sign up to anything, which is a big plus. (Well ZDaemon needs an account but you can make one in 2 seconds in Doom Explorer, the program used to browse servers)

 

secondly, there’s really no reason not to use the “big 3” for MP, you won’t find all that much elsewhere.

 

thirdly, Discord helps, there’s a pinned thread with relevant discord channels in the Multiplayer section (which is where this thread maybe should be moved to)

and finally, you’ll want to learn pro BFG usage before hopping into deathmatches:

I get rolled in doom but its fun  ass hell.

Just now I have found a Doom Fortress 2 server.

yeah tf2 in doom is real.

Go for it -  I lived in an area with relatively few people playing Doom, let alone MP and server-hosting; yet the experience is usually smooth. (200 ping is a non-issue)

The people there are super friendly as well, if you don't know MP concepts, just type your question in chat.

 

Also, SSG and BFG is your friend. Movement is vital.

If you can find others that you want to play with, why not?

Get Zandronum, ZDaemon, Odamex and set Doom Explorer up to fetch servers from all the 3 of these ports and you're gauranteed to find at least a few people any time, alternatively you can join the discord servers if you want to set up a more private / custom game. It's not the most active multiplayer scene but you should still be able to find some players.
