What you want to achieve is different from the scope of the FreeDoom team. the levels will be the freedoom levels as they were about a year ago... just with extra gzdoom eyecandy added, regarding replacing textures, it will be very very few textures... since the texture set for freedoom is far from complete anyway (not to mention sprites for monsters and items but I must live with that it seems) the seperate addon has become a general doom/doom2 compatible 3d addon pack that allows people to use a set of 3d objects for the monsters and items in doom and doom2 and thus nolonger has anything todo with gzfreedoom per say I am porting the freedoom levels to UDMF... thats the core mission of gzfreedoom and I add a tiny bit of sprinkles here and there this is still freedoom and I will do whatever is required by the existing freedoom team to keep the name gzfreedoom and keep this project as a freedoom project, even if it means that I have to completely avoid modifying any textures I could also make a gzfreedoom email adresse in the final release that people could contact if it is esssential However since I am doing this whole project on my own, with just a single playtester, then it will likely take years to complete this anyway fraggle himself said this... "It was a bit more reasonable when it was just some tweaks to maps" and that is what this project has returned to... some tweaks to maps... making them UDMF and adding some GZDoom stuff like swimable liquids etc.. but basically its the same levels all the custom sprite and 3d monsters are gone from gzfreedoom and all the other custom stuff... just a few of the wolfenstein textures will be slightly altered because... damn... and I refuse to use that wolfenstein sailor thing.. in case he is present on some of the freedoom maps I found a way to avoid using the lamp post but as I said, if fraggle needs something to change in GZFreedoom in order for it to continue to have this name, then he can let me know and I will change it... also... this project needs to stay in the freedoom portion of this forum and that will be more difficult if I selected a name that didnt reflected what this project is about ie. FreeGZDoom, GZDoomFree, GZDoomFD etc unless... Zauberer and Blasphemer are also in this freedoom portion of this forum... perhaps.. well... IF this project can stay in the freedoom part of the forum and IF somebody could find a good alternative name for this project then I would be willing to change the name.... this would STILL be an IWAD/IPK3 project... ie.. a full game replacement and it would still be free and open that way I would also regain full creative freedom (and bring back any texture and sprite modifications I found nessecery as well as the 3d objects and monsters, there ARE some textures and sprites that I really really really want to change) .... GZSteampunk? but that might sound more like a mod or something... my end goal would be if the final product could be made available together with gzdoom as a free (slightly steampunk themed?) base game to use the gzdoom engine on, something that would still be 100% doom and doom2 compatible and based on the freedoom levels Edited August 12, 2021 by CBM 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

CBM Posted August 13, 2021 (edited) I am thinking about putting GZFreepunk on github like zauberer and blasphemer as soon as I think e1m3 is ready, also I am considering making it a combined doom 1 and doom 2 compatible project such that it will have all freedoom levels and then be able to select from the menu... that would also make it possible to add in extra levels, so I can save some of all the extra areas of e1m3 for later maps thus speeding up the completion of e1m3 since this is steampunk, then I am considering borrowing some assets from zauberer and blasphemer to help replace some of the worst Freedoom textures, sprites etc that are currently in GZFreepunk for the 'nazis', I am considering replacing them with some kind of new world order / illuminati / knights templar kind of deal instead of this more undefined thing freedoom currently uses I will also be putting in my own WinDASH textures where appropiate new logo Edited August 13, 2021 by CBM 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

CBM Posted October 20, 2021 (edited) so I've been toying with an idea I have been thinking about a spinoff from this project and after dawn... so basically I am considering taking all the GZ'fied freedoom episode 1 levels and making those be the level set for what I have so far in After Dawn... But with focus on 40k enemies... so... gzfreedoom 40k or something similar... without the vehicles... since it will take me a good amount of time to make that work... that is currently holding back after dawn... and gzfreepunk is held back by me not yet mastering the creation of animations plus me overthinking e1m3.... then gzfreepunk can have gz'fied versions of freedoom phase 2 levels (with the extra secret areas and stuff I originally wanted to do with the phase 1 levels) and after dawn will have a selection of levels that I am yet to make and maybe also levels I have already made the gz'fication of the phase 1 levels arent focused on steampunk anyway right now.. I guess I would need to change some freedoom textures to something 40k though --- this way I may get something 40k'ish out maybe sometime next year with 3d models, 3d weapons, 3d scenery etc...
