TheMagicMushroomMan Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) So, I've tried BD several times in the past and hated it. Felt like there were way too many weapons and abilities to be mapped to the buttons on my controller (I have problems with my hands and playing with KB&M hurts). But recently I managed to set it up pretty good, and it's a lot of fun. What I did was bind only things that were necessary. As far as I can tell, rolling, taunts, unloading weapons, the flashlight, etc. are mostly fluff. Do any of these serve any real purpose? Specifically the taunts? Also, does anyone have any tips or anything? Any features I might not be aware of? I know I can google it but I would rather get advice from veterans who know what they are doing. And I'm lazy. Biodegradable Posted September 10, 2020 (edited) Psst, oi @Endless come over here and help Mushroom out with some BD tips and tricks, lad. ;^) Edited September 10, 2020 by Biodegradable 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
P41R47 Posted September 10, 2020 I found the tackle kick to be quite fun to use and giving a good adventage over a group of enemies if used right. To do it you had to run, press crounch and inmediately after press kick. Flying kick was also pretty useful, but i don't know if it is still there. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
CoyoteComrade Posted September 10, 2020 Taunts might be fun in a deathmatch or co-op setting a la Team Fortress 2. Honestly most of Brutal Doom is unnecessary fluff IMO, but maybe I just like my games simpler. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Anyway, here's your tips OP: Rolling is pretty useful when avoiding incoming projectiles, that's obvious, but the thing is that you can still move to anywhere you like when rolling, so use it not only as a dodgin method, but a moving one. Taunts are pretty much just fluff, they do help wake up monsters and call their attention, but you don't want that. Unloading weapons is just for the visual flare. I would recommend unbinding it. Now reloading has one main advantage, and that is with the shotgun. When you fire, press R a microsecond after you fire and the shotgun reloads, but once the first shell is in, shoot again and you'll gain an increase in shooting speed. This is mostly an ''animation cancel'' effect. Flashlight is pretty shit imo. Just download a better one in Zdoom forums if you wish. If you have a mouse with side buttons. Map the Revenant Launcher to MOUSE4 and the BFG to MOUSE5. Or as you wish. On the same subject. I don't actually use the extra weapons, I don't like them that much. But if you do, you should map them to your keyboard anyway you like. I, for example, use T for the mancubus-weapons, F for the plasma rifle, etc. The BFG is buffed big time, (can one-shot a cyber) but I believe theres a small bug that if theres lots of ''bodies'' the tracers trace that instead of the actual demons, so be careful with that. Rifle is more accurate when aiming down sights. Granades suck against mid and high tier enemies, but are great to clear out rooms fulled with low tiers. The chainsaw stunlocks enemies. You can delete a Baron like this if you want to save ammo. Headshots, headshots, headshots. The rocket launcher is buffed, fires instantly and deals less damage to the player. Use that to your advantage. You can take lost-souls into your inventory by using MOUSE2 when under berserk effect. iirc. Melee is not that great. The combos looks cool but don't do much, so stick to just powering your punches wiht MOUSE2 or just spam MOUSE1. But try to avoid melee. SSG can now one-shot Cacodemons. That's quite useful. Arch-viles are nerfed to the ground. Your health and armor now go way over 200%. You might already now this but, Blue armor is always better than Green armor. The thing that I hate the most about this mod. Revenants are OP af. They only launch seekers, ALWAYS, and theres a high change that when you kill one, you'll end up just making matters worse because they still can move their fucking torsos. Main reason why I stopped playing BD. If you are using jump; running, jumping and then quicking will launch you further. ''Fly quick.'' If you are using crouching; running, crouching and then quicking will make you ''silde quick.'' When Berserk, finalizers or glory kills are not that useful anymore. Not worth it, just smash them. Take into account, BD new enemies will break most custom WADs, and the mod itself may break lots of IoS fights because of the new IoS boss. Which I believe can't be disable. The IoS is now a floating generic boss. It's fun the first time, but there's only one method of play: Shoot at it until it dies. Well, hope that works. Peace & love. Thank you so much for the effort you put into helping me! I appreciate it very much :) One question though, when you say BD will break most custom wads, do you mean most wads in general, or just wads with new enemies? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

He probably means mess with the intended vanilla balance, which basically every gameplay mod does. One thing I did notice, that I would count as breaking, was Pinkies escaping teleport closets early, due to stepping over barricades they wouldn't be able to in vanilla. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted September 10, 2020 Yup, what Spectre said. BD is pretty unbalanced in that regard. Vanilla wads, from the 90s let's say, are going to be way more easier, and almost any Ultimate Doom wad is going to be much more easier. Still playable tho, but just not quite right. Also, in the same way some wads become easier, some others become impossible. Forget about playing slaughterwads with it. Still fun, just not that balanced. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

'Offend' taunt pisses monsters out. But not all of them. Mancubus bashing his cannons against the ground for a few seconds, barons starting to shoot at you more frequent. And you just let off steam showing middle finger to the dicmembered bodies after a hard fight 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
