New hud face is offset to the left, help please

PeceMan

Question

So I made some custom sprites for Doomguy's face. I made all 42 frames required. I named them correctly, I even made sure they were in the same order as in the base Doom wad.

But for some reason, my custom faces appear just a little bit offset to the left.

This is a screenshot. Yes I turned Doomguy into a monkey.

Here are some screenshots from slade itself:

The base Doomguy sprite was only added to the wad temporarily, for the sake of comparison. They have the same name, and roughly the same size. The difference in size is only about 1 pixel in both dimentions.

Also slade shows them as if the palet was black and white exclusively. This is a bit annoying, but it honestly hasn't caused me any major problems until today.

The main and pretty much only problem I have is that when in game the face is in the wrong position, and I have no idea why. In every other aspect, the custom face is working perfectly.

Please help me

That would be a graphics offset problem, in the iwads the status bar faces tend to have a negative offset in both axes, usually something like -5, -2, but it varies for each one. Try copying those offsets for your replacement graphics, you can find them in the bar at the bottom of the slade graphics editor window. If your custom graphics are significantly different in shape then it might take some tweaking to get the exact correct looking ones.

From your screenshot it's evident you haven't set up a base resource archive which Slade would use to determine the palette. It doesn't cause issues if a palette file is included in the archive you're browsing, but most likely your PWAD doesn't contain one, hence the issue. If you press the "cog" symbol next to the Base Resource box, you can add doom2.wad (or any other IWAD) as your base resource which should fix your problem.
