Corpses shift and groan, pumpkins begin to glow, and the witch, abominable, insipid is brewing a cauldron of the most vile liquid; all in preparation for the witching hour. These ghouls and ghosts all have one sinister plan: play Doom WADs tonight. Within the machinations of their frightening arsenal, they have conjured up Trick & Tear, a 9 map speedmapping project containing the terrifying works of nine mappers destined to frighten even your bones! Spoiler Map03: “Rigor” - @Austinado You enter a castle look-alike, and what is this? Petrified revenants? What are these screaming awful lost souls? Spiders with bloodthirst? Is time to get out of this place...and you have to do it...with Rigor. Spoiler Map04: “Sanatorium” - @Weird Sandwich The old abandoned sanatorium lingers as a spectre of a vile past.... and now you've been brought here by forces unknown. Spoiler Map05: “Undead Reception” - @Pierrot "You've been invited to a Halloween party at a sumptuous mansion, but it turns out your hosts are the Undeads and you are their meat!" Spoiler Map06: “A Suffering Mind” - @LateNightPerson You awaken in a hospital, head aching from your troubled mind. The walls shift and change as your synapses rot. The illogical meets the mysterious as your mind breaks down... Spoiler Map07: “Sinkhole” - @Blue_Juice_ There is something under the forest. Evil once again finds itself in the UAC’s beakers and test tubes. The corpses will not rest. Plunge deep into the earth as you unravel the mystery of the sinkhole. Groans and moans bicker at the moon. Something moves about the trees as you ready your weapon. The witching hour... is here~ Greetings everyone! On my discord server, I am hosting monthly speedmapping events to give folks some nice little challenges to flex their mapper muscles. This month, things are getting spooky in the dreaded Pineapple Under the Sea! Until midnight of October 28th, you will be challenged to submit a map that will frighten even your fears! (any bug fixes will be due the 29th. A final release is planned for Halloween 2020The rules are as follows: - 8 hour time limit (non-consecutive) - Monsters are limited to imps, revenants, cacodemons, lost souls, pain elementals, specters, Arch-Villes and the plethora of custom monsters added in the resource + The Ghost Revenant + The Tortured Soul + The Forgotten One + Psychic Soul + Poison Soul + The Trite + And last, but certainly not least: Zombie Fodder (Currently inaccessible in the builder, I'll look for a solution) - Maps must be made with as much scare factor as you can muster. Make your players feel worry at every corner they take. These maps are supposed to be tense. + Don't worry too much about making a horror map. All that really matters is the theme; each map is supposed to be 'scary.' But if you can't make horror maps, don't feel obliged to do so. - Custom skies are allowed, as long as they are orange ;) - Custom Music is recommended - Prominent use of blood and bloodfalls - Oh, and the most important final rule: have fun!Target port is GZDoom - Map Formats are flexible, but keep in mind; custom enemies are defined with DECORATE (I'm no programmer, but apparently this causes major issues with some ports/formats. I'm not sure. Either way, GZDoom is the selected port.) Custom Resources attached are required for use in this challenge. Included are the Blood and Gothic texture packs, a modest amount of spooky props, and a cute little group of handpicked monsters ripe for your frightening. Alrighty... I think Archies are spooky enough. I'll edit the main post to include them within the roster. Also, the Zombie Fodder added in the resource uses Zscript and is currently inaccessible in the builder; I'll look for a fix to this when I get the chance. Edit: I've expanded the rules to allow for maps that don't technically fit within the 'scary' rule. All you have to worry about is making a scary themed map; if you can't make a horror map then don't worry. Just make a map that looks like one. Also, to everyone else: I've updated the resource to include the Zombie Fodder enemy, who was previously not in the builder due to ZScript weirdness. BIG UPDATE FOR RESOURCE PACK: In order to use the zombie fodder enemy defined in ZScript, you will have to load GZDoom.pk3 as a resource. This is incredibly simple and I will instruct you on how to do so. When loading a new map, you can add resources; from this page you have three options: From WAD File, From Directory, and the one we want From PK3/PK7. Click the latter and then navigate to the folder where you keep GZDoom installed. From there you will find a pk3 file of GZDoom. Select it and make sure to exclude this resource from the testing parameters. With all of that done, you should have access to the Zombie Fodder enemy. (I may eventually make a third version if I convert this enemy to Decorate to prevent you all from jumping through so many hoops, but for now this band-aid will do. Keep an eye on this thread for that resource.) Apologies for the inconvenience, but I've updated the resource to version 3, this version doesn't require gzdoom.pk3 as a resource, as the ZombieFodder enemy has been converted to DECORATE. No. Since you’re speedmapping, I’m more concerned with your building of the level; taking time to change enemy placements based on difficulty is fine, great even, but I think making it mandatory would take away from some mapper’s much needed time to make the level. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
