Can we crowd fund Ubuntu compatible SLADE and Doom Builder?

Nihlith

Question

I'm in a strange position in that after my last computer died my new rig had serious and apparently incurable issues that were only resolved when I got desperate and reformatted the drive with the latest version of Ubuntu. I use Wine to emulate Windows and I can still play with the game mechanics but there are issues with rendering that make GZDoom seem more like Zdoom and make color conversion in SLADE a nightmare. I might just be too ignorant to make this work as of yet but I would like to see versions of these programs (SLADE, GZDoom, DoomBuilder) that work with Ubuntu's underlying architecture. Problem is that the genius saints who gave us these gems have lives of their own and would likely respond to some incentive on the part of the little people who silently admire and love their work. Is there a simpler solution to these woes? Are there enough of us in this position to make this a real issue? If so can we contact these Übermensch directly and crowd source such a project? I'd love to contribute if these are the case. What say you good people of Doom World?

You should be fine, as it's an evolution of DB2 at heart. There are a lot more functions and features, but the basic controls and work flow is the same.

What's "Ubuntu's underlying architecture", and why do the Linux versions of GZDoom and SLADE not work with it? Even UDB works pretty well (so people said, I didn't try it myself) natively on Linux by now.

Try UDB.  There's been a lot of work recently to make it work more functionally on Linux.

I cant believe I overlooked this. Very nice thank you.

For whatever reason SLADE for linux hasn't fixed the issues I'm having with the colors of the PNGs I'm playing with. The colors appear scrambled after I do the color conversion from heretic to doom for example. I don't remember having this problem with windows. Do you use SLADE for linux?

Unfortunately i work on windows :/
I replied because i remember seeing the Linux Build on the download page.
Aside from that, i think its normal for the colours to be scrambled if you choose the wrong options.
I just tried what you did, converting one Heretic graphic on it own palette to Doom palette on PNG and it worked just right, then i changed it to Doom palette and re converted it to Heretic palette without problem. The graphic just looked slighty different from the original because in the multiple conversion some colours get lost.
If you choose an Heretic graphic and set it to Doom palette, it will look an awful mess of colours, remember to properly set it to Heretic on the current graphic side, and Doom palette on the Converted Graphic side.

Oh my god. The problem is that when I do the color conversions for graphics one at a time it converts every singe PNG in the wad and so when I combine PNGs for multiple games they end up scrambled. Not exactly a solution but a functional work around if you ever get into this situation: only use the convert all button, which converts all selected graphics but not the others. Don't know whats happening but I'm back in the saddle again.
