v6.65.11: I think now MAP33 is completed

- Tested and balanced on the three skill levels

- added combat to the COMPRED room

- removed barrels from the metal/flesh room, as they were pretty annoying

- fixed the collision bug on the reactor room

- blocked the access to monsters to the ffield tunnels

v6.65.12: 

Made tweaks to MAP33 for playing it on deathmatch. Added deathmatch starts, weapons, balanced the ammo ammount on the rooms, make the players to not get stuck on the last room, and added a deathmatch only exit switch (the luigis doesnt spawns on dm).

v6.65.13: Various changes to MAP32:

  • To the two rooms full of imps and chaingunners teleporting: i made that when the monsters exits the room it teleports nearly
  • Removed the room with romero's head
  • Fixed some sky bugs, and missing textures
  • Tweaked the ammunition
  • And the usual implementation of skill levels and deathmatch.

Also for MAP31 i added one deathmatch start more because i felt 3 deathmatch starts was too few.

the wad is practically done, the only things to fix right now i think are the ghost lost souls and hell dragons. i think we cant do anything for the hell dragon, but im trying to fix the lost soul

Yes, I would still like to add the multiplayer additions to the later maps and tweak a few things based on feedback I received.

I'll try to post an update later this week.

@URROVA, Did you already HMP-Max some maps? What was your impression? I was told that some of the maps become a bit too easy because of the many easy-to-find secrets that contain powerful items. I was thinking of reducing the power of some of the secrets throughout the wad (for example: replacing some secret Megaspheres with Soulspheres or Armor). Did you have the same impression?

 

I am going to reserve maps 21 to 25 to make them multiplayer compatible.

Yeah, some maps became easy if you find all the secrets, i think some are MAP05, MAP06, MAP09, MAP13? Also i think the baphomet is easy to beat if you have the bfg. Maybe can be good idea resetting the inventory on the previous level?

MAP02: fixed unalignment

MAP05: fixed a bug in the sky

MAP07: fixed stuck chaingunners and rebuilt the nodes using zokumbsp

MAP12: rebuilt the nodes

MAP14: put the lines in the pillar with the cyberdemon as impassable

MAP15: moved a box where you could get stuck, and aligned some textures

MAP16: made the sectors of the barons "under the floor" trap because the enemy sprites cutted badly and could be seen

MAP18 and MAP19: rebuilt the nodes

MAP32: fixed the monster ambush on the cyberdemon part (i have broken it by accident on the last update)

DEHACKED: gave the dead imp the second translation, so the dead imp object is now brown and not green

So, i went through the two threads and gathered a list of all the people edited the entire wad and the individual maps.

So im starting to make the text file.

Thank you for not forgetting me -- I figured what contributions I made were so small in the long run that they wouldn't be properly credited. Truth be told I forgot all about this project, but I'm glad to see it's reaching some form of polishing! I don't know if I've even come to this thread before but seeing as how you guys are close to the end, I will gladly keep an eye on this.

Description             : NEGATIVEONE (or Doom -1) is a collaborative wad started by AtticTelephone
                          at July 18 of 2020. It started as a single map project where somebody take

                          This project have grown from a single vanilla map to a boom-compatible

NEGATIVE ONE (AKA Doom -1) is a collaborative wad made by a lot of people on the doomworld forums. It was started by AtticTelephone as a single map "experiment" where somebody take the lastest version of the map, made the changes he wanted and uploaded the new version, allowing other persons to edit the map. The project has grown from a single vanilla map to a boom compatible 35 map megawad edited by 45~ different people.

The original final version was published on October 8 of 2020, but some of us tought the wad needed more polishment, so we made a version named "Beyond the Experiment", with bugfixes and more polished levels.

It looks pretty good!

 

Sorry for not updating anymore recently. I couldn't find the time and motivation to work on this.

I have fixed some of the later maps for death-match and cooperative play. I have only finished up to map 26 so far (except map 21 which I did not change yet). I also updated the music credits in the CREDIT lump.

Here is the latest version and a full list of changes:

MAP22:    - removed Megasphere from secret sector 48
    - replaced Megasphere with Blue Armor in secret sector 802
    - co-op: 5 extra barons + 4 hell knights + 4 mancubus + 3 cyberdemons + 1 archvile
    - co-op: extra armor and backpacks near the start + 8 boxes of rockets + 4 boxes of shells + 6 small shell pickups + 4 large cell packs
    - dm: added "S1 floor raise to lowest ceiling" to the back of the 'instant opening' doors in the beginning (sectors 259 and 140)
    - dm: added "W1 ceiling raise to highest ceiling" and "S1 floor lower to lowest floor" to doors marked by keys in square outdoor area

MAP23:    - bug fix: Teleporter destination (thing 192) was missing flags for easy and hard difficulty
    - bug fix: Lava in sectors 83, 203, 343, 464, 575, 582 and 607 now hurt the player; and all lava hurts -10/-20%
    - bug fix: Sector 549 is now tagged as a secret. Linedef 2032 is intentionally misaligned as a hint for this secret.
    - doortrak of blue key door is now lower unpegged
     - co-op/dm: first trap room in the western part of the map: a switch has been added to the back of the bars that lock the player in
    - co-op/dm: second trap room in middle of map: linedef 7265 is now a switch to unlock players
    - co-op: 6 extra cacodemons + 8 barons + 3 dragons + 8 hell knights
    - co-op: extra radiation suits + 13 extra rocket boxes
    - dm: added "door open stay" to back of fireblu forcefield (linedef 4947) for backtracking
    - dm: added "door open stay" to linedefs 4887 and 4045 and "door (red) open stay" to the back of the red key pillars, also for backtracking
    - dm: added blocking pillars in front of first trap room (to avoid players locking themselves in)
    - dm: added a new deathmatch only room to be able to unlock the force field in deathmatch (voodoo dolls don't work in deathmatch)

MAP24:    - bug fix: made linedef 5752 impassable (fireplace)
    - bug fix: moved sector 1002 (crate on one of the boats) to fix a potential softlock
    - co-op/dm fix: added a new switch in the first indoor blood room (sectors 1018/19/20) to avoid softlocks in co-op.
    - dm: in the pentagram teleport rooms, I moved the teleport destination (from thing 39 to thing 426) for deathmatch.
    - dm: added 'floor lower to lowest floor' to back of sectors 982 and 984 to allow backtracking.
    - co-op: 14 extra wickeds + 9 cacodemons + 1 cyberdemon + 1 archvile + 3 barons
    - co-op: extra green armor + 8 extra rocket boxes + 1 rocket + 1 ammo box + 10 cell charges

MAP25:    - bug fix: linedef 3325 now requires blue skull key (as intended)
    - bug fix: increased size of sector 294 to avoid players grabbing the megasphere without lowering the bars in front of the teleporter
    - fixed missing doortrak on yellow keydoor
    - co-op: 8 extra rocket boxes + 4 cell charges
    - deathmatch is limited to the blue key area

MAP26:    - replaced Megasphere secret with Rocket Launcher (sector 669)
    - co-op/dm fix: added lift function to linedef 3695 to avoid softlocks in co-op/dm
    - fixed a few misaligned textures in sector 30
    - fixed misaligned metal textures in Cyberdemon room
    - dm: added extra linedefs 4045 and 4048 to avoid players falling into invisible pits
    - dm: added 'door open stay fast' to door sectors 52 and 528
    - dm: added 'floor lower to lowest floor' to linedef 2856

 

 

So what should I do?

Should I try to continue with fixing maps 27 to 35? Or do we release it "as is"? I cannot really say how long it will take me. The wad is playable in single player and should run flawless in GZDoom. In Boom, there might be small issues with the extra secret maps (see below)

 

Which makes me think: Should we not create a proper UMAPINFO lump or would this create problems? (should be the same as ZMAPINFO)

 

I think there are two things you should also mention in the readme (if not already mentioned):

 

1. Map 21 has an intentionally inaccessible monster and cannot be finished with 100% kills

2. The secret exit of map 32 will probably crash older Boom ports. (<- UMAPINFO might fix this for more modern ports?)

If you want to continue fixing maps, do it. I can fix some maps too. Wold be cool if we can fix to MAP30. But if you dont have the time, we can release this as is.

I will try to make an umapinfo, if it creates issues we can remove it.

Added the MAP21 note. I tested MAP32 secret exit on the old PrBoom and it takes the player to MAP01. Added a note about it too.

 

Anyways, i will reserve maps 20 to 25 and MAP13 to fix some issues i found

Changes:

map13: fixed a stuck shotgun guy on an impassable line

map21: aligned some textures, did some fixes to automap

map23: the crusher on the end lacked textures on some sides, i added them.

map24: changed the colormap of the "plasma rifle" on the start to REDMAP, before it was LAVAMAP.

map25: put a transfer heights action to the cyberdemon jails, because it could cause flat bleeding from the center of the arena.
