E1M9 - Military Base

I may look like a rookie for saying this, but I never knew there was a secret level in Knee-Deep. It looks fun though, I might go check it out.

Yeah. All 4 episodes contain 1 secret map each.

Military base is definitely a good secret level. :3

if you want an extra level in knee-deep, get the OG xbox version of doom. there's an extra secret level in episode 1. sucks though.

E1M9 is probably my least favorite level in all of the original three episodes. The level barely has any health, so you leave the level with low health if you are doing a continuous playthrough, and there is nothing in the level that justifies the cost. It's ugly, also. At least the secret level of episode three gives you 100 rockets so it's actually worth going to during continuous playthroughs. I've always like the Fortress of Mystery from episode two, as well.

Nah, I love it for the difficulty versus the rest of E1. Even the start is brutal, with hitscanners flooding in from all sides. My opinion is no doubt coloured by the rush of joy I had as a kid stuck with E1 shareware upon discovering there was one more map for me to replay a bajillion times after thinking I'd exhausted everything there was to offer. 

 

Come on, that chaingun secret alone is worth the Fortress of Mystery?  Hah, I can't bear it. The first take ever hot enough to melt my brain, you've killed me RonnieColman :)

Military Base is one of my favorite Doom 1 levels.  It's pretty simple, but fun.
