AinuTheTaken Posted October 12, 2020 In your opinion, which map is Romero's greatest map? This includes E1M4b, E1M8b, Sigil, and the original maps he made for Doom and Doom 2. Right now I'm thinking it's E1M3 for Doom. I like its winding but reasonably easy to understand floor plan and the monster balancing here is I think really strong. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gifty Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) For me it's probably between E1M7, E4M2 or Doom 2 Map11. edit: I completely forgot about Sigil. E5M2 might just be a modern classic. Edited October 12, 2020 by Gifty 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
M_W Posted October 12, 2020 I was going to mull it over, but literally the first thing that came into my head was Circle of Death, so I guess I'll have to trust my instincts on that one. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pseudonaut Posted October 12, 2020 E4M2, but I'd have to play his newer maps again to be sure if I like them as much or not. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
VonHeer Posted October 12, 2020 E1M5,6,7 are probably the best contenders. I haven't played Sigil though, and I would have to replay his versions of m4 and m9 to decide. I hope Romero is able to learn how to make good Doom2 maps while not compromising his style. Most of his Doom 2 maps neglect the ssg. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zulk RS Posted October 12, 2020 I thought MAP29 of Doom 2 was neat. As far as I recall that's a Romero Map right? 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
PeterMoro Posted October 12, 2020 E1M7 Computer Station. Best Doom level ever. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
P41R47 Posted October 12, 2020 E4M2 and Map29 for me. Both acompanied by the best music tracks on their respective games. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TenenteZashu Posted October 12, 2020 Map 15 and map 29 but I lean more towards map 15 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) Honestly can't pick between Circle of Death, Gotcha!, and Perfect Hatred. Love 'em. I can't think of any Romero maps that are bad. Edited October 12, 2020 by Doomkid 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Oldschoolgeek32 Posted October 12, 2020 Honestly, I love all of Romero's Maps. Especially his "Knee Deep In The Dead" Maps :) I also love a good challenge like E4M2 and Maps From Sigil 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted October 12, 2020 E1M1 The fact that Romero saved this episode map for last allowed him to craft a single, opening level which incorporates every bold new feature in Doom; stairs, outdoor environments, doors, lifts, switches, the shotgun, monsters attacking from differing heights, dramatic differences in light level, damaging and unique floor types, non orthogonal map design, visible AND hidden secret areas... E1M1 has everything. It is the quintessential opening map and does a beautiful job of explaining Doom to you without tutorials. This isn't Romero's most challenging or technically competent map, but as a player's first experience with Doom, it's a masterpiece—you learn everything you need to know about Doom by the time you hit the end-of-level switch. 30 Quote Share this post Link to post

TheMagicMushroomMan Posted October 13, 2020 (edited) Most of E4. Specifically the first few maps of E4. Changed my mind, Against Thee Wickedly. Edited October 13, 2020 by TheMagicMushroomMan 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SOSU Posted October 13, 2020 We all know it's his Daikatana maps :V 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Omniarch Posted October 14, 2020 Perfect Hatred, then maybe Abandoned Mines. I also really like Phobos Labs. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Toilet_Wine_Connoisseur Posted October 14, 2020 Unspeakable Persecution hands down. *The living End for the OG era Its a tough one cuz other than the OG E1 maps Romero has never made a lackluster map. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheMagicMushroomMan Posted October 14, 2020 Sigil is also a strong contender for me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted October 14, 2020 Sigil level 4, 5 ,and 6 are really great contenders, and experiments how gimicky he can go with a idea and still have a nice gameplay flow. The keymaze of episode 4, the towers and all lava in level 5, and super dark in 6, all 3 with the sigil gameplay of not-so strech plataforms 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kyukon Posted October 14, 2020 All of his Ultimate Doom maps are great but, E1M5 was always one of my favorites. It had a lot of interesting set pieces, and I really like just how interconnected the map feels, and how it makes sure to let you know where you are, relative to the rest of the level all of the time. Honorable mention, I feel The Living End is definitely the strongest of his Doom 2 maps. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ElPadrecitoCholo Posted October 14, 2020 My favorite Romero maps would be the following: -E1M9: Military Base -E1M2: Nuclear Plant -E1M6: Central Processing -E1M7: Computer Station -E4M2: Perfect Hatred -MAP29: The Living End -and all levels of Sigil 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
PeterMoro Posted October 14, 2020 Some people mentioned Against Thee Wickedly and so i went and double checked and it is indeed superbly designed. A very close second to E1M1 Computer Station. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
