What difficulty do you play Doom on?

Sometimes it Gets tricky with new wads, but you get good at dealing with sudden traps or ambushes.

I go with whatever looks like the hardest difficulty I can reasonably play on based on the map description or mapper's reputation. For most normal content UV feels fine, if it's a mapper known for slaughter/challenge stuff I prefer skill 3 or even 2 for a first playthrough then try the harder skills later if the map is interesting.

I usually start with HMP on any game (or whatever the equivalent to that is) and work my way to UV. With the exception of D3 I’ve never managed a play through on “hard” first time through.

Hey, it's that question I've heard a gazillion times before!

 

Jokes aside, I play on HMP if I'm playing Doom or Doom 2. For megawads like Sunlust, Eviternity, or Valiant I use ITYTD or HNTR.

 

Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in HMP.

I usually play on Hurt Me Plenty, but if I'm playing an extravagant GZDoom gameplay mod - then I might go with Ultra Violence.

UV normally with saves.

HMP on more ball busting wads like Sunlust or Hell Revealed II. But if I find a wad too easy even on UV just turn on fast monsters.

If map is well designed and looking good I play on lower difficulty, actually. So I can sit and watch the view.

What if it is not ? So this depends on map or wad. I suggest people play on every difficulty. It teaches you so does and don'ts when you are mapping.

I had exclusively been a UV player since 1994, to the point where I forgot Doom even had other difficulty levels. Then just this week I got around to playing Hell Revealed (I know, I know), and oh man... Map13 (the one with the cage) finally made an HMP guy out of me.

Haha my new map has all difficulty lvls from scratch so completely dif monster and items and weapons but all quite hard

I been wanting to make a nice easy going map but I don't think I have it in me LOL
